First Semester at OSU Reflection

It’s hard to believe that my first semester at OSU is finally coming to an end. It seems like just yesterday I moved into my incredibly hot and stuffy room in good ol’ Baker East. Classes have been hard, harder than I imagined and there have been failures and tears, but overall I could not have gotten through it without the loving support of my new friends and family. They have been my support system and I couldn’t be more thankful. I am also thankful that I now have a major in mind and I am pursuing a degree in Public Health with a specialization in Sociology. I feel confident in this choice and I feel like I will enjoy this major a lot.

I have had many new and exciting experiences like attending my first OSU-Michigan game, seeing the largest cartoon and comic book museum in the world, visiting Chicago, riding in an Uber, joining Boo Radley Society, attending the Hillary Clinton rally, attending the Italian Festival, becoming the Superior Megan, winning the intramural championships for softball, going to a hockey game, and having movie nights with best group of new friends a girl could hope for. I have no clue what the next three and a half years have in store for me but I know I cannot wait to find out.

But Out Reflection

1.) I want to read more books, but I have too much homework.

2.) I want to join more clubs, but I am too busy with other stuff.

My First Week at OSU

The first week in a new place is always a stressful and overwhelming experience. This is especially true for my first week at Ohio State. Trying to find classes, meeting a ton of new people, and overcoming the hectic chaos that is the dining halls, are some of the many challenges I had to overcome. But now with a week under my belt, I feel as though I can keep going and have a great year.

Everyone always talks poorly about ol’ BEast and their reasoning is somewhat valid. Baker Hall East certainly has its high points and low points. The sense of community is second to none. The RA’s are hilarious, open, and friendly making for a great atmosphere. We are only 500 feet away from the union which is so convenient, and having all of the Humanities scholars together is fantastic. However, the lack of air-conditioning is sometimes unbearable and don’t forget to watch your step as there be could be a cockroach crawling your way. But honestly, I wouldn’t want to suffer in these conditions with anyone else. Everyone living here makes it worth it!

It was stressed both in Orientation and Convocation that getting involved is key here at OSU. I’m currently in the process of applying to be in The Boo Radley Society, and I may join other clubs such as the Student Dietician Association, Recipe for Good, Rotaract, and the Clean Plate Club. (Notice a majority of clubs involve food, lol!) I also can’t wait to participate more in the Humanities Scholars program and play intramural sports offered by both the program and the RPAC. I signed up for the Humanities Manatees softball team and hopefully flag football will be next!

All in all, I am so looking forward to rest of the year, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds!
