Final Project & Reflection

Final Project Overview

For the global option capstone I did my final project detailing the effects of the recent wildfires in the countries of Canada, United States and Australia. I also explained how wildfire management has evolved and how proper wildfire management can contribute to effectively mitigating devastating and extreme fires. As a part of this project I made a forum presentation. Key take aways from my presentation include the importance fire plays in an ecosystem and that removing fire from the system is often what can lead to fuel build ups that lead to more damaging fires. Climate change is also a factor that has led to more intense fires across the world. Mitigating climate change and reintroducing fire back into the ecosystem through prescribed fires are ways in which we can address these extreme fires.

Final Project Reflection

This project allowed me to combine my knowledge from my major with my international experiences. Wildfires have become such a headline topic that I felt I had to do my final project on it. The effects of these fires is truly heartbreaking, but the importance of fire in an ecosystem as well as in fire management cannot be overlooked. This is a complex issue and a global mindset is key to addressing it as climate change is a part of what is making the problem so prevalent.

Global Option Final Reflection/Accomplishments

As mentioned earlier the Global Option has allowed me to intertwine international experiences into my studies while at The Ohio State University. Taking global courses as well as studying abroad in Canada and Australia have shaped my college experience to be so much more than I could hope for. I feel as though my experiences have allowed me to grow as a global citizen and increased my global knowledge.
