This year, I was able to accomplish something I did not think could be done as a freshmen. My friends and I started a club, currently called GrOSU. This club hopes to reach out into the community for service to urban gardens, educating children on the importance of farming sustainably and eating healthily as well as bringing sustainable gardens to OSU. This club, although new, has made me into an even greater leader than I thought I was. Immediately I had to reach out to community service coordinators in order to find volunteer opportunities for students (our main service is with Franklinton Gardens- and urban farm group). I am not from the Columbus area so it was a challenge to reach out to an unfamiliar group of people. The rewards were excellent as we are working on building a partnership with this great group as well as giving the people of Franklinton access to urban gardens.
Another experience I incurred was declaring my minor in Spanish. This is a dream I have long hoped to achieve since I have been in Spanish since the 6th grade. Declaring this minor makes this official and gives me a goal to work towards and complete. I hope to use this minor to travel the world and speak to countries about sustainable living as well as what they can do to better the environment. I only have three more classes to complete and hopefully I will finish them through a semester abroad!
