About EHIRS:

The 6th annual Engineering in Healthcare: Industry and Research Symposium (EHIRS) is a virtual event on Friday, February 26th, 2021 hosted by OSUxBMES. EHIRS is a prime opportunity for students to network with industry and research leaders in healthcare related fields, ultimately fostering a stronger collaboration between industry and academia. 

EHIRS will feature a keynote presentation and a seminar presentation from speakers who have experience in both industry and research. The keynote will be given by Dr. Geoff Vince, BME Department Chair at Cleveland Clinic’s Lerner Research Institute, from 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM. The seminar presentation will be given by Dr. Molly Shoichet, Professor of Chemical Engineering & Applied Chemistry and Biomaterials & Biomedical Engineering at the University of Toronto, from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM.

Industry representatives from a variety of companies such as Battelle, Cook Medical, Medpace, NuVasive Manufacturing, and Medforall will be in attendance. These companies will be hosting two virtual networking sessions for interested students from 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM and 2:45 PM – 3:45 PM. Company representatives will also be featured on the industry panel from 3:50 PM – 4:50 PM to answer questions presented by our hosts. 

Graduate students will be giving platform research presentations, grouped by domain, from 10:05 AM – 10:45 AM. There will also be a general poster session from 1:40 PM – 2:40 PM in which students will host booths where they present and answer questions regarding their research. These booths will also be grouped by domain. These students will come from 9 different universities, including: The Ohio State University, Carnegie Mellon University, Washington University of St. Louis, Purdue University, University of Illinois at Chicago, University of Akron, Pennsylvania State University, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and Wright State University.
