Co-President: Mukul Govande

Mukul is a fourth-year student from Cleveland, OH but originally from Hyderabad, India. He developed a love for BME after working at a BME lab at the Cleveland Clinic and continued this passion by joining BMES as a freshman. Mukul is also a research assistant at the Experimental Hematology Research Lab led by Dr. Byrd on Med Campus, a member of Tau Beta Pi, and a board member of The Global Design Mission. After obtaining his degree, Mukul plans to pursue an MD and further the field of orthopedics. During his free time, Mukul enjoys playing basketball, reading Sci-Fi novels, hiking, and practicing origami.

Co-President: Ian Rasquinha

Ian is a fourth-year biomedical engineering student originally from Issaquah, Washington. He joined BMES during his freshman year. Previously, Ian was the BMES treasurer for the past 2 years. On campus, Ian is currently a member of RAM, Medical Innovation, and assists in Chimes Junior Honorary. Currently, he works at the Wexner Medical Center for the Radiology Department as a Student Administrative Research Assistant. Additionally, Ian works for Rev as a transcriptionist contractor. After he gets his BME degree, Ian plans to acquire a MD in Anesthesiology. Outside of campus, Ian is an avid skier, having taught classes in Washington. Additionally, he likes to paint, attend car races and horse races, and participate in water sports.

External Vice President: Ada Kanapskyte

Ada is a fourth year biomedical engineering student. Ada came to OSU from Chicago, but she is originally from a small town in Lithuania. Over the course of her college career, Ada has explored nearly every corner of campus, from being a Resident Advisor for the Engineering Learning Community on North campus, to a Research Assistant down on medical campus, she’s served as the Outreach Chair for the Buckeye Space Launch Initiative on West Campus, and occasionally, you could find her interviewing OSU’s postdocs at the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs in the center of campus! Once she receives her bachelor’s degree, Ada hopes to continue working for NASA as she heads off to graduate school. Most importantly, she hopes to continue sharing her love for science and space with the youth community, especially by engaging and empowering others to pursue STEAM.

Internal Vice President: Connor Neifert

Connor is a fourth-year student from Hudson, Ohio. He is a Biomedical Engineering major with concentrations in Neuroscience and electrical engineering. He became involved with BMES his sophomore year in the mentorship program. Currently, Connor is crafting his undergraduate thesis as a student researcher in the Hund Lab for Excitable Cell Engineering, and is also involved the Office of Diversity and Inclusion and the Morrill Scholars Program. After he gets his degree, Connor hopes to get his PhD focused on neural engineering, and afterwards plans for a career in industry. In his free time, you can find him chilling at coffee shops or exploring Columbus; he also likes to run, hike, sing, play bass guitar, and whip up some tasty meals.

Treasurer: Michael Kaltman

My name is Michael Kaltman and I am a 4th year in BME. I am from Cincinnati, Ohio. I am currently serving as the treasurer of BMES. I am really interested in combining technology with biomedical devices and I hope to work on that throughout my career. I have done research in Dr. Gallego-Perez’s lab focused on Alzheimer’s disease and biomedical informatics research at Vanderbilt University. In my free time, I love playing my guitar, cooking, and traveling.

Professional Development Chair: Divyaam Satija

Divyaam is a fourth year biomedical engineering student originally from Delhi, India. He plans to use his BME background to introduce an engineering perspective in the field of medicine. Div is also the Lead Teaching Assistant for the engineering department of education and a research assistant at Dr. Janssen’s lab. After obtaining his degree he plans to pursue an MD to become a cardio-thoracic surgeon one day. Outside of campus, Div loves playing soccer, euchre, chess etc.

Projects Chair: Teddy Renner

Teddy is a fourth year BME undergraduate student at Ohio State and is originally from Akron, Ohio. He currently serves as BMES’s Project chair for the second year and was previously involved in BMES as an E-Council representative and the Medical and Industry Visits Coordinator. Teddy is also involved in College Mentors for Kids, previous was an Anatomy 2220 TA, and works at Nationwide Children’s Hospital as a Patient Care Assistant. He also loves to follow Cleveland sports and enjoys cooking. After earning his B.S. in Biomedical Engineering, Teddy plans on attending medical school.

Social Events Chair: Natalia Mendonca

Natalia is a third year Biomedical Engineering major pursing a minor in computer information science. She became involved with BMES in her freshman year as a general member and was the Marketing Chair of BMES her sophomore year. Currently, Natalia is an undergraduate research assistant in Dr.Higuita-Castro’s Nanomedicine Lab, a Fundamentals of Engineering teaching assistant, and a member of the Chimes Junior Honorary Society. In the future, Natalia hopes to get her PHD in Biomedical Engineering. In her free time, she bakes and takes photos for her food blog, reads novels, and explores the restaurants of Columbus.

Marketing Chair: Sreyas Pillai

Sreyas is a second-year undergraduate student pursuing a Mechanical Engineering major with a BME minor at Ohio State. He came to Ohio Statefrom Beachwood, Ohio, but is originally from Thodupuzha, Kerala, India. He was a freshman representative in BMES during his first year and decided to run for Marketing Chair. He also works as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant for the Engineering Education Department. After earning his Bachelor’s degree, he hopes to attain a PhD in biomedical engineering. In his free time, Sreyas enjoys playing badminton, drums and practicing Malayalam/Japanese.

Secretary: Connie Yuan

Connie is a third-year majoring in chemical engineering and minoring in biology. Though she switched majors from BME to ChemE, she continues to be involved in BMES for the great community and myriad opportunities. Apart from BMES, Connie is a member of the Wellness Committee for E-Council, Vice President of the Chimes Junior Honorary, and a member of AIChE. She is also a math tutor at the MSLC and a Resident Advisor. After earning her bachelor’s degree, she hopes to go to graduate school to research biomolecular engineering to prepare for a career in industry. In her free time, she reads Stephen King novels, runs, and manages a content creation team.

E-Council Representative: Anna Wang

Anna is a second-year Biomedical Engineering student at Ohio State University, minoring in business. She is from Dublin, Ohio, though she has previously lived in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. She’s interested in Cellular and Tissue Engineering, Biomaterials, and Nanotechnology, and is currently volunteering in the Janssen Cardiology Laboratory. After earning her undergraduate degree, she plans to attend graduate school and then pursue a career in industry or academia. Her hobbies include playing the violin, reading literature, and knitting/crocheting.

Hi there! Swaapnik Choda is currently the E-Council Representative for BMES! He is from Naperville, Illinois, and currently majoring in Health Sciences on a pre-dental track and hopefully a minor in Biomedical Engineering. He really enjoys what BMES has to bring to those that want to pursue a career in the field and the events that they provide to others. In his free time, he loves to hang out with friends and play sports!

Faculty Liaison: Pranav Murali

Pranav is a third year BME student from Dublin, Ohio. He became a BMES member in his freshman year and is a board member for the first time this year. He is on the e-board of IAA, has done work with a startup weekend organization known as Launchpad OSU, and has done research with Dr. Jun Liu. After undergrad, Pranav plans on taking a gap year to work and take the MCAT, and then he plans on going to medical school!

Aneesh is a second-year student at Ohio State from Mason, Ohio. He is majoring in Biomedical Engineering and plans to pursue an MD after earning his undergraduate degree. After medical school, he hopes to work as a pediatrician. Other than BMES, Aneesh is a member of Dr. Skardal’s Biofabrication Lab, the OSU Club Tennis Team, and Pass the Class. In his free time, he enjoys playing basketball, listening to music, and spending time with friends.

Kate is a second-year biomedical engineering student from Arlington Heights, Illinois (a suburb of Chicago). She joined BMES her first year as a member of the Professional Development Committee. After earning her B.S. in BME, Kate plans to pursue a master’s degree in Engineering Management and work at a medical device development company. She is a member of Pi Beta Phi, and enjoys swimming, listening to music, getting coffee, and hanging out with friends in her free time.

Mallory is a third-year student from Gahanna, OH. She is a Biomedical Engineering major and minoring inLeadership Studies. She joined BMES her first year as a mentee in the mentorship program, then served as a member of the mentorship committee and as a mentor during her second year. Mallory is also a Small Group Coordinator for CHAARG, a member of Phi Sigma Rho sorority, and participates in euchre club. After graduation, she plans to work in medical device development and return to get a Master’s in Biomedical Engineering or Medical devices. When not studying or planning outreach events, you can find her working out at the RPAC, playing tennis, or watching football/basketball/hockey/softball/baseball.

Jad is a 4th year student from Louisville, KY. He’s pursuing a double-major in Biomedical Engineering and Spanish. He’s a Biological Science Scholar and a part of the Global Options in Engineering program at OSU. He volunteers regularly at La Clínica Latina, helping the latino community gain access to various social services. As a pre-med student, he plans on receiving his MD after his undergraduate studies. Ellie is a third year student at Ohio State from Cleveland, Ohio. She is majoring in Biomedical Engineering with a Business minor, and is on the Pre-medicine track. She became involved in BMES sophomore year as a mentor in the mentorship program. Currently, she is researching under Dr. Higuita-Castro in a nanomedicine and cellular/tissue engineering lab. Special Initiatives Chair: Tasha Bruner

Tasha is a third-year BME undergraduate student from Tipp City, Ohio. She became involved in BMES as a member during her sophomore year. She is a part of the Environment and Natural Resources Scholars Program and loves to spend her time outside in nature and camping. In her free time, Tasha loves to run along the Olentangy Trail and complete half-marathons. After earning her B.S. in Biomedical Engineering, Tasha wants to attend graduate school focusing along the lines of cancer and research.
