Established by Dr. Qin Ma in 2015, Bioinformatics and Mathematical Biosciences Lab (BMBL) focuses on developing computational methods to discover heterogeneous transcriptional regulatory mechanisms from single-cell sequencing data, and elucidate microbial systems with human diseases on metatranscriptomic data. More about BMBL’s work can be found on our selected publications or full publications pages. We are now actively inviting applicants for the positions listed below.

Postdocs

We are recruiting postdoctoral fellows who are pursuing specialized research training and experience in single-cell sequencing data analysis under the supervision of Dr. Qin Ma at the Department of Biomedical Informatics. The postdoc fellow will potentially perform the following research tasks:

  • Design/develop novel computational tools for single-cell multi-omics data analysis (e.g. scRNA-seq, scATAC-seq)
  • Identify cell-type-specific regulatory mechanisms in complex tissues and diseases
  • Elucidate functional machinery encoded in patients versus healthy people
  • Build up web-based applications for comprehensive and interactive single-cell analysis
  • Assist in identifying new biomedical data analysis technology and trends
  • Collaborate with other researchers in determining research priorities and planning programs of research
  • Assists with writing and submitting grant proposals to obtain extramural funding agencies
  • Presents ongoing work and findings at local, national, and international conferences
  • Participate as a team member with lab staff, collaborative researchers, and students and to interpret data and discuss project progress

The ideal applicant should have:

  • Proficiency in at least one programming language, such as R, C, Python, or MATLAB, is strongly preferred
  • Knowledge in genomics, genetics, or proteomics is desired but not required

More detailed information about the position summary can be found in this link. Applicants are encouraged to apply by submitting a curriculum vitae and cover letter by email.

Graduate Students

We are continually accepting positions for graduate research assistant. Masters and undergraduate students are encouraged to apply by sending an email, including a curriculum vitae.
