For my scholars program, Mount Leadership Society, we participate in service projects around Columbus. Our service project for the Month of October was running Halloween Parties at local Rec Centers. This event gave me the opportunity to reflect on my childhood and all the privileges I had. As a child, I didn’t understand the full extent of how lucky I was to live in a nice, safe neighborhood and my parents having the ability to both buy me costumes and take time off to trick or treat with me. As I have gotten older I have constantly gained awareness of those around me and seen how different other people’s childhoods were based on their financial situation. I was so grateful that I was given the opportunity to give children the same fond memories of halloween that I was lucky enough to have and I am very lucky to be at a school and in a program that provides me opportunities to learn from my community and do what I can to give back.
