Weekly Update

Hi all…a couple reminders this week

  1. Unlock DVD cases (another reminder). Whenever you do paging slips and have a DVD–please unlock the DVD before placing it on the black shelf in the processing room. We are still having issues with DVD’s being sent out to patrons locked, which results in the DVDs being sent back to us (and then we have to resend it to the patron). Basically instead of the patron receiving the DVD in 2-3 days–it’s more like 7-10 days.
  2. Remember to do hourly counts. Please remember to do the hourly counts at the top of the hour when you are working. Also, take the time to push in chairs and straighten the computer areas up as you do the count–this will make me very happy!
  3. OSU students: Don’t come to work next Thursday or Friday (Oct 13 & 14). You are on Fall break! If you want to work you are more than welcome. However, I suspect you might want to head home for the long weekend 🙂
  4. Library computers now automatically turn themselves on and off. Thank to our wonderful IT gurus we no longer need to manually turn on (or off) the computers in the library at opening or closing. Staff computers still need to be done…however, all the other computers (group study rooms, classrooms, iMacs, PCs) are fully automated.
  5. Recording Studio Opening to Students. The recording studio in the library’s media center will be open for students to use soon (Vanessa and David are working out the details). Right now there is only one student who has been given access. If he asks to use the room, get either Vanessa, Kay, David, or Laura to unlock it. We will be getting a key for the keybox soon.
  6. Remember to record your reference questions. Whenever someone asks you a question, please remember to record it (this goes for me too). If you are uncertain how to record something just ask Vanessa or me–we will be happy to help.

That is all. Thank you for all your hard work. You are awesome 🙂

Game of Shelves (starting 3/23/2016)

For something fun to do for the last 5 weeks of the semester, I’ve created a competition titled “Game of Shelves”– and yes, the idea is a blatant rip off of the TV show. The idea is that you each have your own section of the stacks that you’re responsible for (consider it your kingdom, but actually it’s your shelf-reading section). Each week I will pick the section (or kingdom) that is in the best condition. Vanessa and Kay will also be judges. Here’s what we’ll mainly be looking for 1) Shelves filed in correct order 2) Tidy looking shelves (I’ll give you more details on this in person).

Also, just for fun, I’d like you to create your Game of Shelves name. My name is Khal Laurador Clegane (Master-at-Arms). Vanessa is Princess Vanesansa Tyrell. Type your name in the comments section below please 🙂

Anyway, at the end of the semester the student with the strongest kingdom (the most wins in “battle”) will be given a Panera giftcard–although honestly, I think I’ll have a tough time judging, which is why I’m enlisting Kay and Vanessa to help.

Let me know if you have any questions!

New Students

Hello all,

I just wanted to give you a heads up that we will have two new student workers starting this week–maybe into next week. Their names are Tatianna Gregory and Teresa Hsu. Depending on what your work schedule is, you might not ever cross paths, but just in case you do, you’ll know who they are and can say “hello”!

I have newly updated schedules on the circulation counter should you want one. Your schedules have all stayed the same, but should you ever need to trade with someone, the new schedules will be useful to have. Also within the next week or so, I’ll give you updated contact information in case you need to get a hold of one another.

Thanks!!

New Memo Delivery System

Greetings students,

In order to simplify communication–because I’m not always here when you are working–I’ve created this blog to deliver updates, reminders, and other useful information.

So each time you work, please access the blog and look for updates (there will be a link on the desktop). After you have read the memo, just put your initials the comments section (see my example below).

Also, please feel free to use the comments section to ask me questions–of course you can always ask me in person too!

Thanks,

Laura
