Hi everyone!
Welcome back for another semester!
When you’re working the evening shift, make sure you do at least 30 minutes of shelf reading in the stacks (unless you have another big project from us).
While shutting down the library with your partner, make sure you straighten and clean up ALL of the rooms. For example, I don’t want to find a wireless keyboard abandoned in one of the study rooms and the chairs needing pushed in.
Just as a reminder:
-No headphones while working at the front desk (you can listen to music while shelf reading IF you have a partner watching the front).
-Please don’t make personal calls while on duty unless it is for an emergency.
-No friends behind the desk.
-Feel free to work on your own stuff AFTER you finish all of your work duties.
-Give patrons a 15 minute warning before we close (except for classes in session).
-You can start the closing process about 30 minutes before we close, but please don’t turn off the lights or lock the doors early.
Questions or worries? Let us know!!!
-Vanessa
If an OSU student can’t get on the internet, it may be because their password expired. If IT is available (10am-2pm at the BuckeyeBar in the BLIC), direct the student to that desk. You can also have them call 614-688-4357 for 24/7 help from Columbus.
Your other option is to try to solve the issue yourself! Refer back to this blog page if this question comes up, especially if you work evenings.
First, ask the student if they are able to log into their school e-mail or Carmen. If they can’t, it’s likely that their password has expired. If they’re not sure, I’ll have an extra set of instructions at the bottom of this post.
Instructions for known expired passwords:
1.) Have the student go to my.osu.edu/resetPassword (this is case sensitive so make sure they capitalize the P in password).
2.) Follow the prompts to reset the password. If they can’t answer their security questions and their DUO feature isn’t working, have them call the 614-688-4357 number for Columbus IT.
You can also find the instructions for resetting passwords here.
We reset the password, now what?!
After their password has been reset, you’ll need to have them forget the osuwireless network on their device. Once the network has been forgotten, you should see it show up in the list of options again. This time when you click on it, the network should ask for the name.# and password. If they are using their phone and it gives them a list of connection settings, set it up with the following information:
First drop-down: select PEAP
Second drop-down: select the option that reads something like MSCVP etc.
Third drop-down: select the option that asks the network not to check or validate
Have them put in their name.#, skip the anonymous username, and have them put in their password.
There is also a helpful IT instruction page if nothing here works.
Checking to see if password has expired:
For this, you can have the student try to log in to Carmen or their school e-mail from one of our work computers or one of the public terminals in the library. If they can get in, their password hasn’t expired. Have them call the 24/7 IT phone number for help.
If they can’t get in, I would recommend having them reset their password and then trying to get on the internet.
