Semester Update

New Hourly Pay Rate

Effective January 1, 2015 the new minimum wage for Ohio is $8.10/hour.  You should all see this change reflected on the first paycheck of the year.

OSU Paging Slips — New Location

When processing the OSU paging slips you might notice a new “pick-up location” on some of the slips (pick-up location is the section will say Thompson-THO, Marion-MAR, Fine Arts-FIN, etc) .  The new location will say “Distance User (Out of State).” When you receive these requests, please mark “DU” in the upper-left corner (for example, just like we do for Thompson Library=THO or Fine Arts=FIN). I suspect we won’t see too many of these, but just in case.

New Student

Starting the week of January 19, 2015, we’ll have a new student worker at the BLIC.  His name is Jeremy Boles–so if you see him, please say “hi”! Also, I’d like to have an updated contact information sheet sent out shortly–so if you have a phone# or email change, just let me know.

Graphing Calculators

Battery Replacement. We will now replace batteries for the graphing calculators if a student asks (we’re not really trying to advertise this fact). The replacement batteries are in the calculator drawer. We currently have 24 AAA batteries–if this supply gets low, let me know. If/when you replace a calculator’s batteries, record the calculator and date on the “Calculator Replacement Sheet” in the drawer, and place the old batteries in the box labelled “old batteries” (pretty self-explanatory).

Missing calculator. Has anyone seen calculator #29? It’s shows “available” but it’s not in the drawer.

New Year, new lock for the lock box

So our faithful lock of many years has passed away. In its place is a giant gold lock with a new combination. The new combination is 0152 (quite similar to our old lock). Once you have entered the combination, you need to pump the lock handle twice to get it to open–if you have any questions see me.

New Leisure Collection from Mansfield-Richland Co. Public Library (MRCPL)

The Mansfield-Richland Co. Public Library is now providing us with new “Leisure” materials for our collection. The collection is filed at the front of the library (on the metal shelves near the library instruction classroom). The books have a check out time of 3 weeks and the AV items have a check out time of 1 week. The materials can’t be renewed online, but if the patron comes into the library, we can check the item in and then check it back out. These new items look like this (the stickers have the check out times and fines listed):

I should note that we still have the Leisure collection that was provided by us to by OSU Newark. These items go out for only 1 week (although if the patron asks for a longer check out time please adjust the date up to 3 weeks). Also, these items can’t be renewed online–although just like with the MRCPL books, if a patron brings the item in, we can check it in and then check it back out. These items look like this (the stickers have the check out times and fines listed):

Anyway, both Leisure collections are filed on the metal shelves near the library instruction classroom, but they’re filed separate from one another (and they have different check out times).

To promote the new Leisure Collection, there are bookmarks at the front desk. Anytime someone checks out any book (it doesn’t have to be from the “leisure” collection), slip a bookmark into it.

Okay–that’s it for now. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me!
