Q: What brought you to Japan?
A: I was given the chance to indulge and engage with different parts of Japanese culture early on, so it was important to me to go to Japan. I got my masters at the University of Tokyo Japan
Q: How has living in a different country changed your life?
A: It has shown me that there are so many ways to live life. Being around people with a different world view, with different habits, really shows you there are different ways to live and take care of people in society. Living in a setting different from my baseline, gave me a chance to question and challenge what I knew and try new things I wouldn’t have felt comfortable doing back home. It has given me a new sense of confidence. Through living in Japan I have been able to express more freedom and choice with my hair and try things I didn’t know I would want to do.
Q: What advice do you have for Black youth and creatives?
A: You don’t have to meet certain definitions that people have set, go out and do what you never expected you could do or go out and do what you have set out to do.
