Work: Professional snare drummer
Q: What brought you to Japan?
A: I came to Japan in 2014 as a performer.
Q: How has living in a different country changed your life?
A: Coming to Japan and just being outside of the United States opened my mind to different ideas of how people live their lives and communicate. It really brought me outside of a box, I see the world completely different. Outside of America just how people behave and how nice they are is apparent, your whole attitude changes. I’ve developed a sense of confidence in Japan and freely express myself.
Q: What advice do you have for Black youth and creatives?
A: People in America are stuck in a box, we’re brainwashed into thinking this is it and that you’re not going to be anything. You’re fighting against the system, but there’s a way to get around that. Our community especially should try to leave America, travel somewhere, I think you’ll like it. Trust me I think it will change your life perspective on everything. Building yourself up is hard, but you have to keep doing it in order to make progress, be consistent.
