Hi, I am Biyun.

I am passionate about learning, interpreting, and promoting the understanding of difference.

The difference of people, cultures, and practices.

About me…

I grew up in Beijing and went to college there. Since then, I have studied, worked, and lived in many different places, including India, the UK, Thailand, and the US. Encountering different peoples and immersing in different cultures, I have become sensitive to the variances across countries and interested in the practices to promote mutual understanding among people. I believe misconception, mistrust, and asymmetric information is the root of many wicked problems. I don’t see mutual understanding as agreement or consensus but rather as respect and acceptance of differences. It is the cornerstone of communication and collaboration and a valuable asset and capital to improve individual, organizational, and governmental practices in various fields.

Connecting the dots…

I received a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from the University of International Business and Economics. After that, I continued my study at King’s College London and earned a Master’s degree in Public Policy. I researched at the United Nations and worked at nonprofits before coming to The Ohio State University to study cultural policy and arts administration. The theory of public policy and public administration serves as the foundation of my research and teaching practices. Building on that, I delve into various topics, which include but are not limited to cultural policy, cultural/public diplomacy, non-profit management (with a focus on arts and cultural organizations), and creative cultural industries.
