The Brain Injury from Violence CARE Alliance (BIV-CA) was founded in 2023 to bridge and support systems and survivors to inform, educate, evaluate, and address the challenges of brain injury from violence. Featuring over 55 groups and organizations representing service providers, justice advocates, researchers, clinicians, and those affected by brain injury from violence, BIV-CA provides a platform where we all can work in coordination to better address this complex issue.
- Mission statement: To bridge and support systems and survivors to inform, educate, evaluate, and address the challenges of brain injury from violence.
- Vision statement: We bring systematic change to address brain injury from violence, and ensure survivors and all affected have accessible resources to heal, feel empowered, and thrive.
History of the CARE Alliance:
Founded in 2023, the Brain Injury from Violence CARE Alliance is a network of individuals from various communities, organizations, and systems (ex. crime victim services, state and local government, justice and health care systems, culturally specific organizations, universities, researchers, etc.) that bring together survivors, families, advocates, and professionals to understand and address brain injury from violence. This dynamic and passionate group intends to raise awareness, inform policy, research projects, provide education and training, and more. We are currently working on our plans and initiatives, which includes action teams focusing on awareness and policy, research, training and education, and services (“what’s next”). The Alliance was formed due to feedback received during community conversations led by The Ohio State mailto:CAREAlliance@osu.eduUniversity and the Ohio Domestic Violence Network in 2022.
