Costa Rica

In 2016, I took the opportunity to travel to Costa Rica through a school trip with several of my classmates. I was able to immerse myself in a new culture, learn about different species and wildlife through hands on experiences, and make memories that will last forever. The one week adventure outside of the classroom was filled with water rafting, zip-lining, hikes up a volcano, horseback riding through the mountains, crocodile watching, and surfing. During all of these exciting activities, teamwork skills were built, problem solving skills were utilized, and communication between one another was strengthened. Through my four years at OSU, I hope to travel abroad to gain skills that cannot be obtained through the traditional classroom experience and expand my global awareness.

About Me

My name is Morgan Billstein, and I am a junior involved in the Biological Sciences Scholars Program. Before moving to Columbus, I lived in a small town in Toledo, OH, where my graduating class at Ottawa Hills High School was just 73 students.

Throughout high school, my interests usually leaned towards math, science, and art classes. Of the sciences I studied, I was most interested in ones relating to the medical field, and I loved my ceramics and jewelry classes. I am extremely fascinated by all aspects of the human body, especially the brain, which has helped me to chose Neuroscience as my major. To incorporate my passion for both art and science, I am also on the pre-dental track hoping to later specialize in orthodontics. My favorite extracurricular activities in high school were sports. I played varsity on both tennis and basketball all four years of school. I also enjoyed several clubs that allowed me to participate in community service. All of these extracurricular activities provided me the opportunity to grow as a leader and push myself out of my comfort zone.

As I begin my journey at The Ohio State University, I hope to challenge myself academically, discover my passions, and make new friendships and unforgettable memories.

Abstract

Hi, thanks for clicking on my e-Portfolio! Feel free to click on different tabs to learn more about my journey at The Ohio State University as a Biological Scholars student!

First Semester 2017

My first few months at Ohio State have been filled with a myriad of new experiences and friendships. Whether it was learning my way around campus, attending various scholars events and new clubs, or going to my first Ohio State football game, unforgettable memories were created. I look forward to many more over the next three years!

Service Engagement

Service Engagement is where students participate in service around the community. Last year, I was apart of a volunteer club on campus that went to the Ronald McDonald house every other Sunday to prepare meals. Also, through Bio Sci Scholars, I plan on attending various events that are service based. Next year, I hope to become a Red Cross Ambassador to help around campus with blood drives and other various activities.
