G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness- As the first step letter of G.O.A.L.S., global awareness is all about developing a global perspective and appreciation of diversity.  In order for me to fulfill this, I intend to travel abroad at some point in my college undergraduate journey and experience a new culture.  Specifically, I intend to go on a trip with Medlife to Peru which will allow me to gain a better understanding for other cultures and learn how the world can work together.  Specifically, with this service trip, I will gain experience in the medical field that will strengthen my knowledge for my future as I see multiple perspectives on how the medical field varies from country to country.

Original Inquiry- For my specific major of Microbiology, original inquiry is a major part of my academic journey as I will be doing research in a lab in the coming years in order to test a research thesis that I will come up with.  This will allow me to gain experience in a lab setting while working under brilliant scientists who I can grow under and use as a support for researching my thesis.  On another side, this will also teach me how to critically think and come up with things on my own, in turn, teaching me the original inquiry aspect.

Academic Enrichment– As an honors student, academic enrichment is a vital part to my success as a major part of how I made it to where I am was through the desire to gain knowledge.  In order to continue this in college, I will be taking honors levels courses that will challenge me in the level of academics and workload.  This rigorous schedule will help me to become stronger in managing my time and pushing myself to grow.  Additionally, academic enrichment for me will involve taking courses outside of my major in order to provide myself with the knowledge to become a well-rounded student in many areas.

Leadership Development– As I have been in many captain positions and club leadership jobs prior to college, my goal is to continue this in college by eventually being the president of a club at Ohio State.  Specifically, my goal is to be the president of the Predental club and be a leader in the H2O church on campus.  In order to do this, I realize that I need to start at the bottom which is why I have begun getting involved in clubs early in my freshman year.  By becoming a president and leader in these, I will gain valuable leadership skills of working with others and building a successful team towards a common goal.

Service Engagement- As the final letter to the G.O.A.L.S. in honors, I certainly do not consider it the final letter of importance as service is one of my most important roles for me as a student.  In order to get involved in service, I have already begun to do this by participating in the community service engagement projects put on by the Pay it Forward program at Ohio State.  Through this, I am able to go and give back to a community that supports my university so much and show them what it means to be a buckeye.  By engaging in community service, I will also gain an understanding of people from other backgrounds and learn about potential social issues that are going on around us.
