Alma Santos moved to Ohio from California. Her narrative tells us about coming as a young woman and living in the Hilltop area of Columbus, Ohio. As a young child, she remembers eating at soup kitchens and visiting food banks and her mother telling her that this situation was temporary and that, when the time came, they would give back what they had received. Alma’s mother helped open the food bank at Our Lady of Guadalupe, where Alma works and carries out her mother’s mission to help others. This interview by Elena Foulis is part of the Oral Narratives of Latin@s in Ohio.
