About Me

My name is Gregg Berry, I am a first year finance major from Norwalk Ohio with minors in political science and computer science. I am a member of the Business Scholars Program, and Undergraduate Finance Association. I am a business management intern at Global Gifts, a local non-profit shop in Columbus’ Short North market district. Global Gifts is dedicated to the sale of fair trade artisan goods, enabling disadvantaged workers in undeveloped economies by providing work and job training with fair wages and safe working conditions. I am working toward my career goal of either pursuing my own entrepreneurial venture, or heading the finance department as a senior officer of a large corporation. My hobbies include exercising, Photoshop, exploring Columbus, catching up on current events, and expanding my knowledge on topics I find interesting. I have enjoyed my first year at Ohio State immensely, and look forward to my remaining time as a Buckeye!

Artifacts

On Monday March 19th I began my business management internship at Global Gifts. Since then I have learned, first hand, many important aspects of managing a business, especially in the retail industry. My experience at Global Gifts has taught me how to record weekly financial data such as expenses, invoices, credit transactions, and purchase orders. I learned how to set sales goals and calculate the return on inventory. I now have experience digitalizing and organizing financial data for the purposes of managing the balance sheet and preparing taxes. I have run reports to determine gaps in the inventory, and constructed purchase orders to fill those gaps. As my time at Global Gifts nears its close, I can reflect on all that I have learned. This internship has taught me a great deal about myself, and helped to shape my career aspirations. I am now comfortable interpreting data on finances, inventory, and sales. I have also fueled my interest in understanding how businesses operate and make decisions; this interest will only develop further through my future courses and internship experiences.
