Year in Review

First Year:

I could not have asked for a better first year at The Ohio State University. During my freshmen year, I joined a fraternity and played in various intramural soccer leagues which truly enhanced my Ohio State experience.

In my spring semester, I joined Alpha Epsilon Pi, and met hundreds of new friends. Although Greek Life is not necessary at a school as big as Ohio State, I am very glad that I joined it. It has allowed me to gain useful resources that can help me throughout school, great connections for the future, and people to always rely on.

Intramural soccer was also an important part of my freshmen year. I have been playing soccer since I was four years old. This was the first year I wasn’t playing for a competitive team. By finding some friends and competing in leagues it not only helped me to  stay in shape, but also play the sport that I love the most.

Second Year:

My second year at Ohio State was the most fun I’ve ever had in my life. I slightly adjusted my major and joined the executive board of my fraternity.

During the fall I realized that I wanted to take a bigger role in my fraternity. I decided to run for New Member Educator and ended up winning the election. I am very excited to take on this role and further my fraternity.

Secondly, I decided to change my major from Computer Science Engineering to Management Information Systems. I noticed that during my CSE classes, I wasn’t loving what I was learning. This pushed me to rethink if CSE was the best choice for me. After a long debate, I ended up switching my major to MIS and I couldn’t be happier with the decision.

G.O.A.L.S.

G.O.A.L.S #1 – To achieve an internship for the Summer of 2017 that involves innovation

Over the course of my first year at Ohio State, I have learned that I love to look towards the future and I want to shape it in my own way. In order to take steps to achieve this goal, this summer I want to obtain an internship where I’m working to help make meaningful innovations towards the future.

Reflection:

This summer I was able to obtain an internship with the Cleveland Clinic Department of Innovations! I have just started my internship and I love it. I’ve been able to work on new, interesting projects that will have a direct impact on the future.

G.O.A.L.S #2 –  To achieve a leadership position in a community that I am involved in

This coming year, I want to achieve a leadership position to gain skills and knowledge in handling other peoples demands and needs. I enjoy working with people, and I want to get more experience in a leadership role.

Reflection:

I received a leadership position at Hillel at Ohio State. I am involved in this organization around campus by taking leadership courses through programs they provide, and being a birthright intern. This experience has been extremely meaningful to me because I learned to take directions from another individual and complete assigned tasks. My personal experience from last summer living in Israel, made me a great candidate for the position and I was very happy to do it throughout the year and I am excited to continue to do it in the future!

One of the best experiences of my life allowed me to help recruit other individuals to have the same possibility.

Career

During my time so far in The Ohio State University Computer Science Engineering major I have gained extensive experience in software; learning how to work in Eclipse to build Java projects, as well as work with languages such as Processing, MATLAB, and more. One of the most significant projects I have worked on involved designing an Advanced Energy Vehicle through SolidWorks and manipulating it to run around a specified track with Arduino.

While working in Israel this past summer, I was responsible for implementing an add on to the company’s software which allowed users to enter and manipulate data from Excel. This valuable experience gave me extensive knowledge in working with Java, AngularJS, and HTML.

Along with this, I had the opportunity to work with a large soundproofing company called Audimute.  During this internship I created templates using HTML to advertise and sell additional products to various markets. I had to target the market that was in need of this product, and compete with the prices of my competitors in order to create profit.

In the future, I would love to work with a team in a big company accomplishing technological based problems.

Green Engineering Project Presentation

GES Presentation

Over the course of four weeks, myself and two other classmates researched and presented the capability of utilizing energy from hurricanes. We discovered that the unpredictable nature of the hurricanes combined with the sheer power of the natural disasters was too much for any wind turbine to handle. Overall, this project taught me how to condense information read through published, scholarly articles and present it to an unfamiliar audience. I had a great time researching the project and presenting it to my peers.

EcoOs Website

This past summer, I interned at EcoOs, an Israeli startup focused on helping companies manage their data on sustainability levels. During the two month internship, I was in charge of creating a usable add-on to their software that automatically formatted the data that the user inserted from excel into a table. Above is a link to their website which provides more information on what EcoOs does. This was a fantastic experience and it taught me a lot about the startup nation and technology.
