About Me

The Gilmour Academy Moot Court Team after winning the 2014 OCLRE State Championship

Grant and his teammates after winning the 2014 OCLRE Moot Court State Championship

Throughout my four years of high school, I competed both nationally and locally in debate. Although I was able to take advantage of my opportunities to the fullest, what became apparent was the massive resource disparity that students in specialized activities face. No where did I encounter this more clearly than the state tournament: one student was ill prepared such that, after I gave my first speech, he did not know how he could respond, and began to cry. His lack of preparation was merely a result of his lack of somebody to help him learn the activity properly.

I believe that our desires for personal success should not be mutually exclusive with desires to assist others. Following my graduation from high school, I have begun collaborating with others in order to produce effective debate education for disadvantaged student. I carry this same ideology into my education at The Ohio State University. Although I am majoring in finance due to my desire to achieve personal stability and comfort, I also plan on focusing my attentions to learning how I can develop the world around me into a better place without engaging in self-immolation.
