G.O.A.L.S.

After taking the VIA strengths inventory, I learned that my top 5 strengths are as follows:

  1. Humor– liking to laugh and tease; bring smiles to other people; seeing the light side; making (not necessarily telling) jokes.
  2. Spirituality– having coherent beliefs about the higher purpose ad meaning of the universe; knowing where one fits within the larger scheme; having beliefs about the meaning of life that shapes conduct and provides comfort.
  3. Perseverance– finishing what one starts; persevering in a course of action in spite of obstacles; “getting it out the door”; taking pleasure in completing tasks.
  4. Honesty– Speaking the truth but more broadly presenting oneself in a genuine way and acting in a sincere way; being without pretense; taking responsibility for one’s feelings and actions.
  5. Zest– Approaching life with excitement and energy; not doing things halfway or halfheartedly; living life as an adventure; feeling alive and activated.

I believe that this order is very accurate after having been at college for a month now and seeing how I’ve been carrying myself and the decisions I’ve been making. I would maybe put zest third, followed by honesty and then perseverance, but those are the only corrections I would make.

I think that I use employ zest everyday in my life in even just doing the smallest things. Like the other day, I really wanted a slushy and so my roommate and I hopped on the COTA bus and went to Speedway. It was honestly just such an adventure and full of so much excitement for such a seemingly little thing.

Leadership is number 11 for me and I wish that one was higher up because I do see myself as a leader in some situations.

I love the word zest as a characteristic to describe somebody, so that would have to be my favorite strength. I just love how it embodies the excitement and energy aspect of life.

Here is a picture of me living my life with zest when my rowing team decided to jump in after practice one day.

Career

[“Career” is where you can collect information about your experiences and skills that will apply to your future career.  Like your resume, this is information that will evolve over time and should be continually updated.   For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. Artifacts

Just as a museum displays artifacts that represent the values, accomplishments, and hopes of particular cultures, your e-Portfolio will present the artifacts that convey what matters to you.  Working with artifacts enables you to build connections between educational experiences, one piece at a time, understand the significance of experiences, and shape your future goals.

About Me

Hi, my name is Madison Bell, but I usually go by Maddy. I was born in Findlay, OH and then moved to North Carolina shortly thereafter. After 3 years of living there, my family moved back to Ohio and I’ve lived in the Hilliard area for most of my life. I graduated from Hilliard Bradley High School and I am very excited to begin the next part of my life. Some of my family has been to Ohio State, and I’m ready to begin my own journey here. My faith is something that is very important to me, and I enjoy spending time with others who can help me grow in my faith. I’m a very outgoing person who loves giving back to my community and seeing others happy. Whenever I help others, it makes me feel very good inside knowing that I impacted someone else’s day. In college I hope to stretch myself intellectually and expand my knowledge to encompass a variety of different subjects. I want to get out of my comfort zone and try new things even when they’re hard; to meet new people even when it’s uncomfortable; and to learn new things about myself and gain the confidence I’ve been lacking for so long.

Coming to college is a way for me to focus in on what I’m passionate about. I’m here to learn as much as I can about that in order to be able to go out and pursue a career doing what I love. During my time at Ohio State, I hope to gain real world experience through internships, network with faculty and alumni, and immerse myself into learning a wide variety of topics that will help me to succeed in life after college. n high school I served on the board of a service club. We attended to the needs our school community as well as the surrounding areas of Columbus. I love helping others and giving back to those who need it, as well as being a leader. I hope to continue to be involved in a service club during my time at OSU. I also plan to join an activist group such as Defend our Future to protect the EPA’s budget and bring awareness to the severity of climate change. During my sophomore year in high school, I attended an EF Tour to Costa Rica for a Global Student Leaders Summit on Sustainability. While there, I had a chance to meet so many people from around the globe who shared my passion for sustainability. We worked together for 3 days using the design thinking process to design a solution for the problem at hand. In attendance were a handful of world leaders and environmental activists who spoke to us about how our generation can be a part of the change that our world needs. Among the speakers was UN messenger of peace and British primatologist, Dr. Jane Goodall. I had the opportunity to meet and speak with her, and so that really was an experience that I treasure, and that continues to inspire me to pursue studies in the field of environmental science and sustainability. I As far as academic goals go, I plan to stay organized and on top of deadlines, take courses and study material that challenges my mind, and to take initiative to dig deeper into subjects that really interest me and form meaningful relationships with my professors.

I have a couple of different avenues that I can see myself going after I graduate. I would love to be able to travel around to third world countries and places that don’t have sustainable practices incorporated into their lives and help them get to the point where they do. I would also like to travel world and educate others about ways in which they can live sustainably.  I could also see myself working for the EPA in some sort of way, or maybe working on Capitol Hill for a sustainability sector. i know that the possibilities are endless and I’m excited to see that kinds of opportunities Ohio State will provide me with. I dream of changing the way sustainability is perceived, and implementing changes that affect the future of our planet. I want to be an advocate for change and continue fighting for what I believe in.

Being an active member of my community is something that I care deeply about. I see myself thriving in a communty of others who have similar passions as me, which is why I joined ENR Scholars. It is my hope that this group provides me with opportunities to serve my community and give back in ways that matter. I hope to lead my legacy on campus and around Columbus by striving to live sustainably each and every day, and to just be a friendly face that others can come and talk to about anything. I want to help make Ohio State a happier and more positive place by always saying hi to faces new and old, and by creating a welcoming atmosphere wherever I am.
