Artifacts

[Artifacts are the items you consider to be representative of your academic interests and achievements. For each entry, include both an artifact and a detailed annotation.  An annotation includes both a description of the artifact and a reflection on why it is important to you, what you learned, and what it means for your next steps.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness

I will develop global awareness through a variety of things during my time at the Ohio State University. I plan on taking several classes that deal with issues outside the scope of my day-to-day basis. For example, I am hoping to take a class on the HIV virus in Africa for my history general elective. I also hope to participate in research in another country or to study abroad. Being educated and aware of global issues and being exposed to a diverse group of lifestyles is something that I will hope to have achieved before leaving the university.

Original Inquiry

As a chemistry major with hopes to enter the medical field, I am certain that research will be a significant part of my time at Ohio State. I hope to participate in research that is both interesting to me personally as well as helpful to my understanding of my field of study. I am open to different types of research but I hope to find a singular project which I can be apart of for many of my years at the university. I am excited to have the opportunity to be able to attend a university at which my desires to experience hands-on researching can be accomplished.

Academic Enrichment

I chose a major of chemistry because I always liked it. I didn’t like it because it was easy for me or because I have had a particular talent for it, but because there always seemed to be more than I didn’t understand. It is a subject in which I will constantly be learning new things. Although I chose chemistry to be my major area of study, other areas of study are still extremely important to me. I hope to have a diverse range of skill sets and knowledge by the time I graduate. To accomplish this, I will not take classes simply because they are easy or required. I will go out of my way to take GE’s that challenge as well as interest me. I hope that my course-work as a whole is challenging enough to prepare me for the extreme challenges I might face in medical school and beyond.

Leadership Development

In my time at the university I hope to find an extra-curricular in which I can focus much of time while enjoying doing it. I am hoping that I will become dedicated enough to rise to a leadership role in said activity and that I will grow into an effective leader. My leadership style at its current state consists of hanging back and staying quiet until I am needed. I tend to hesitate to be the first to take on a leadership role because of fear or intimidation. I hope that my experiences at Ohio State will help me grow into a more confident and fearless leader.

Service Engagement

I hope to find a service project that is both fulfilling for myself as well as helpful for the community. I am currently planning to volunteer at a hospital or at some other medical area. I know that this is an environment in which I will be engaged and dedicated because I will be interested in my surroundings. This will help me to be a better volunteer because I will be passionate about the things that I am doing and the people that I am helping. This environment will also help me build connections so I can establish a foundation for my future career so that I can keep helping people and doing something that I love for the rest of my life.

Career
