Roe Inducted into OSU Animal Science Hall of Fame

On April 14th, the Ohio State University Department of Animal Sciences will celebrate the achievements of those who have enhanced student education and enriched the animal sciences industry through the annual Hall of Fame ceremony.  Several prestigious student awards will also be presented.

This year, the Department will induct Bev Roe, Angus cattle producer, into the Animal Sciences Hall of Fame.  Recipients of the Animal Sciences Hall of Fame have demonstrated superior skill and achieved success in the field of Animal Science for themselves and their families.  They have also practiced service to others through giving their time, energy and thoughtfulness in the local community.

Beverly (Bev) Wagner Roe received her undergraduate degree in 1975 in Animal Science and Agricultural Communications. Bev’s roots run deep in Ohio Agriculture.  She was raised on a family farm with registered Angus cattle near Fremont, Ohio. Following her graduation, Bev used her talents to communicate the story of agriculture as a writer and editor for the Ohio Farmer magazine.

Bev is a well-respected leader of Ohio’s beef industry and a passionate spokesperson for agriculture. She is unique as she truly understands all facets of the beef industry from conception to consumption and is intensely focused on making a lasting connection with consumers.  Bev, and her husband, Bill operate Pedro’s Angus farm located in the southwestern corner of the state near Hamilton, Ohio. Their farm consists of approximately 150 head of registered Angus cattle. They market a large number of bulls and bred females each year to commercial cattleman in a multi-state area. The farm uses the latest technologies available to constantly improve their genetics and create repeat customers for their bulls.  Prior to the ownership of their Angus farm, Bev assisted her husband Bill in operating a chain of restaurants, including Pedro’s Angus Steakhouse.

She served as chairman of the Ohio Beef Council and as a director of the Ohio Cattlemen’s Association board of directors for 6 years. She has provided leadership to many organizations, both local, state and national, including the Butler County Cattlemen’s Association, the Ohio Angus Association, the American Angus Association and the Certified Angus Beef LLC program headquartered in Wooster, Ohio.
