The first annual Ohio Beef Forage contest is now accepting hay sample entries for a chance win prizes for the best forages in the east. Sponsored by ADM Animal Nutrition, Inc. (ADM ANI) and International Stock Food (ISF), with sample analysis performed by Rock River Laboratory, Inc., the new contest aims to improve beef forage management in Ohio and other eastern US states.
Beef forage producers from Ohio as well as Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia can compete for prizes with an entry into any (or all) of the three contest categories: alfalfa hay, grass hay, or mixed hay (alfalfa/ grass mix). Forages will be evaluated on the Relative Feed Quality (RFQ) of each representative sample entered via laboratory analysis. The top three forages in each category will receive a $100 gift certificate for ADM products (prize sponsored by ADM), a $75 gift certificate for Rock River Laboratory feedstuff analysis (prize sponsored by Rock River Laboratory), or a Yeti Tumbler, (prize sponsored by ISF), depending on their placing in each category.
A $12 entry fee provides entry into the contest along with a Neutral Detergent Fiber (NDF) Digestibility laboratory analysis of the sample. Analysis reports and placing results will be available for participants to pick up at the ADM booth at Ohio Beef Expo, March 14th – 18th, 2018. Participants may submit up to three samples to compete.
