ABET (3): Experimentation

ABET(3) Experimentation: Engineering programs must demonstrate that their students attain an ability to “develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgement to draw conclusions.” (www.abet.org proposed for 2016-2017).

The document I have selected for ABET(3): Experimentation, is a report written on enzyme purification and plasmid transformation in E. coli.  Enzyme purification and ingesting it into other DNA can revolutionize modern medicine, farming, and life.  Learning about how certain enzyme effect protein production can be done using many methods. The purpose of this lab was to obtain  an enzyme that is ampicillin resistant, check its purity and make E. coli ingest this enzyme. Using current techniques to do all of this E. coli can be made resistant to ampicillin. The enzyme during this lab was Beta-Galactosidase. Using modern methods the enzyme was purified, checked for purification, and ingested into E. coli. The enzyme activity was also looked at during lab to look at the relation of concentration of the enzyme and how is effects activity.

This report demonstrates an ability to use modern experimentation methods to transform E. coli into being ampicillian resistant.  The report also demonstrates the ability to analyze the results of these modern tests and draw conclusions as to whether they were successful or not and how the experiment could have been improved.  Below you will find the attached lab report.
