Year in Review

I believe that I have gained various experience and insights on how to be a better person and a better leader through the Dunn Sports and Wellness Scholars program.  I have been able to develop more as an individual and gain new skills.  Through our leadership course and the various knowledge I have learned from Brendan, Olive, Abigail, Allie, and more I have become a more well rounded and experienced individual.  I have been able to maintain a 3.5 GPA thus far and have recently acquired an internship for the coming summer.  Although it has nothing to do with scholars, I believe scholars has helped me get to where I am today.  I look forward to using my knowledge and skills in the future to improve myself and my work.  Getting to experience different meetings and talks from a vast group of volunteer speakers has solidified my choice to go into the business world.  I know that is where I will succeed and enjoy a great rest of my life.  Experience with talking with all the different speakers has helped me during interviews, meetings, and other business skills.  Dunn Sports and Wellness Scholars has prepared me more for these types of things and I am grateful for it.  I look forward to using these skills and everything else I acquired during the program to use later in life and see how well it will help me succeed.  Dunn Sports and Wellness is a great program and I am glad I had the opportunity to participate in such a great community of individuals.

Year in Review

I always told myself I was ready for college and wanted more than anything to get out of high school.  However, after moving here, it was a much bigger change than I thought it would be.  I didn’t know any of my roommates so I spent a lot of time getting to know them and the other people on my floor.  I was glad that it was so easy to meet new people just by walking to the room next door and having people waiting there to meet me as well.  One of the most memorable experiences from my first few weeks at school was probably the first football game.  I went to Sloopy’s for their game-day buffet with some high school friends.  It was my first time going to Sloopy’s so I was very excited when I saw all my favorite foods.  Then we all walked over to the game together and had a blast.  I had already been to many football games in the past, but this was my first one as a student.   I was able to sit in the student section and cheer with the rest of the students.  The Shoe is one of the coolest places to sit and watch a football game.  It was such a cool experience and it was just a great experience overall.   I continued to go to all the games with my friends and enjoy watching us kick some butt.  College has been one of the greatest things to happen in my life and I’m looking forward to the next 3 years.

Artifacts

There are many things that I can think of when answering the question of, “what makes your freshman year so exciting and what one thing reminds you of it.”  I can think of pictures, clothes, and even the tickets that all remind me of my great experiences.  However, I would say that my Ohio State football jersey is the best “artifact” I have to resemble my experiences at the football games.  I got it in high school, but never really wore it that much before college. I wore it to every single game.  It reminds me of all the good times I had on gamedays.  I will never forget putting it on every morning before games and walking into the stadium with my friends.  My parents bought it for me in high school before I left for college.  It was my first Ohio State jersey and I loved it.  Every time I look at the jersey it reminds me of all the good times I’ve had wearing it and it excites me to put it back on.  Every time I put it on before a game I am proud to wear the school’s colors and just the thought of knowing that I go to this school means so much to me.  I hope to continue to wear the jersey to all the games I go to throughout my entirety at Ohio State.  With this being said, I also kept every ticket to every game because they also remind me of the great times I had and I look forward for the next 3 years to come.

About Me

My name is Jacob Beckman.  I am 19 years old and I am from Cincinnati, OH.  I am majoring in Finance because math is my favorite subject and I have always seen myself working in the business field.  Right now I am hoping to either become a financial advisor or work with stocks.  My greatest passions are hard-work, playing sports (most of all hockey), meeting new people, working-out, fishing, reading, and surprisingly cooking.  Whenever I am not working on homework or at work, I am participating in one of these activities/passions.  I am one of six kids in my family.  I have an older sister, who just graduated from OSU last year, an older brother that is a junior at Rose Holman, a younger sister that is a senior at MND High School, a younger brother that is a freshman at St. X High School, and another younger sister that is in 5th grade a St. Margaret of York.  I also have two loving parents.  My dad is an engineer and my mom is a burn nurse.  I love them very much.
