About Me
Welcome to my Honors & Scholars e-Portfolio
Hi, my name is Jacob Beal and I am a member of the biological sciences scholars here at Ohio state. I hope you enjoy my page!
Semester in Review
This semester has been an amazing experience for me. For the first time I have been able to face challenges on my own and critically think to solve these problems independently. Independence is important to me especially on a campus as big as Ohio State’s where independence does not mean being alone. I am constantly meeting new people that can help me solve my problems from other students to professors. These problems range from big to small, academic to basic life functions, scary to fun. I’ve come across many challenges and being able to make a plan to tackle them has allowed me to grow immensely this semester.
G.O.A.L.S.
Global Awareness: In a world where information moves instantly and the opinions of people from all over the world can be accessed on a cell phone it is easier than ever to be globally aware. I try to be globally aware by understanding the opinions of others (especially those with different viewpoints than my own).
Original Inquiry: Being in a science major (biochemistry) original inquiry is what drives me to learn. Original inquiry is analogous to curiosity in many respects. My curiosity of chemistry and biology alike is what drives me to try to ask new questions and find their answers every day. Whether it’s in or out of the classroom original inquiry and curiosity is what drives me to learn new things.
Academic Enrichment: Academic enrichment is the main goal of college and school in general. Academic enrichment becomes so much more rewarding when you find something you’re passionate to learn about. Environment is also an important factor in academic enrichment and Ohio State provides one of the best environments for academic enrichment.
Leadership Development: Leadership development is an extremely important quality because of its practicality. Leadership can be useful in a large number of ways such as sticking out as an applicant to making a difference in the community. Being involved in clubs has helped me develop leadership skills.
