G.O.A.L.S.

  • Global Awareness: I believe that this refers to both understanding the world around you, as well as recognizing the range of diversity that occurs even locally. Knowing that OSU is a very diverse place, I plan on taking advantage of that through efforts such as utilizing the social and service opportunities organized by the Multicultural Center. Alongside this, given my past and present experiences with France and the French language, studying abroad is an endeavor that I have strongly considered.
  • Original Inquiry: Given Ohio State’s reputation as a top research hub, contributing to the pursuit of knowledge through conducting original research is an important goal of mine. As I work further along into my major and develop my skills, I would like to get involved in undergraduate research in the field of statistics. From collecting to analyzing data, I believe these efforts will certainly serve me well in the future as I work to obtain a degree with research distinction.
  • Academic Enrichment: As I decided to major in statistics, I plan on taking challenging math courses that will be useful in making sense of data. Additionally, I know that having coding skill is a near-necessity in today’s workforce, especially in a field that aggregates such a vast quantity of information. As a result, I intend to learn an applicable programming language, such as R, that will make me a well-rounded statistician.
  • Leadership Development: Being a leader is a valuable skill that can elevate a group’s potential and lead to great results. To further my leadership skills, I plan on getting involved in student organizations and clubs that not only foster a sense of community, but also provide the chance to work up the ranks of leadership. For instance, given my strong interest in investing, I plan on running for a leadership position of the Common Cents Investment Group once I become eligible.
  • Service Engagement: Due to my involvement with the First Year Collegian learning community, I have ample opportunities to provide community service to those in need. My main focus that I aim on contributing the most to would be food security. It’s horrifying to learn that despite the massive quantities of food produced in the US, so much of it doesn’t get to those who need it the most. To help remedy this issue, volunteering to distribute food in ‘food deserts’ in Columbus is a noble cause that I would like to become involved in.
