My First Semester at OSU

Whenever reflecting on my first semester at OSU I can say it has been quite an experience and I’m glad that it’s turned out the way that it did. I could tell you I made a plethora of friends but I didn’t, instead, I made a very close bond with a smaller group of friends and I gotta say I wouldn’t trade it for anything. My classes for the first semester went extremely smooth and I didn’t have to much trouble keeping my grades up and getting the work done on time. Overall I would say my favorite thing to come out of this semester is mostly the things I have seen and the experiences I’ve had just being in college. I love being on campus and having my friends nearby and having nights to myself but also having nights out, whether that be to go eat or find something to get into. The long walks home at three in the morning for a long night of studying and watching tv over at the towers are things you’ll never forget. I’m excited to see what is to come next semester, the classes I’ll take and the activities I will pursue, I think my first semester at OSU so far has truly helped me find out more about me and what I want to do.

Where I am from

I am from a place where colors glow brightly. Think about taking a tv screen and taking the resolution and turning it up to the point that the colors seemed more fluorescent and the image jumped out at you as if it were actually moving of the screen

I am from a place where the people see the world a lot differently and tend to hold different views on day to day life. As one thing goes by and another shows up, treating things on a day to day basis like buses, only in use for our personal convenience.

The hustle and bustle of the city is always loud. No matter the time of day you can always find people outside, weather that be on a walk or working on something important. The lights that shine off buildings illuminate the dark sky and the heat from the building radiates throughout the city and sit on the streets like a blanket

Cars are always passing, people are always talking, and life is always moving. It’s up to you if your going to sit back and watch it happen our try to interrupt the  flow. Do you try to make waves or do you drift with the current, wondering what things could of been but not wondering about what they actually turned out to be.

I am from a place where life is a little bit more simple. Even though there is constant activity and life in the city is fluorescent, life can be sifted through like sand here you can pick out the hard spots and life and determine how to handle them. It’s when you become so concerned with the busses around you and the people’s activity that you lose sight of your actual mission. I am from a place where I was taught to sit back and let things be the way they were going to be and controlling the current is only the impossible.

I am from a place where sitting back and watching is a privilege, because the self reflection and moments of tranquility that come along with it are nothing short of momentary bliss.

Artifacts

Hello, my name it Tavis Barton and I’m currently a student at OSU majoring in history with and undecided minor. A little bit about me is I enjoy things like hiking/being outdoors ,playing video games, trying different foods (especially hot food and pasta), and learning new languages. One of my biggest interest is traveling and although I’m still waiting to travel overseas, I anticipate in doing so soon. One of my biggest worries about being here at OSU is falling behind on homework or waking up late for a class. I know, no big worries, but I think that’s because I’m settling in pretty well. For the most part I really enjoy the community shared amongst the students and faculty and the easily accessible building layout that makes it easier to get to class and eat. I enjoy the long walks to class too, especially in the morning because it nice to get some sun and fresh air before you go to class. I’m most excited about the opportunities offered up by the university when it comes to study abroad programs. When thinking about al the countries you could potentially visit it can be a bit overwhelming but in a very exciting way. So far this week has been really easy going and getting a grip on things has been pretty smooth. My expectation for my OSU experience is to walk away a better person than I walked in as. I hope to make new friends and share new bonds that allow me to grow and be the best me. Overall I think this place is amazing, the people, the campus, the experience.
