G.O.A.L.S

G.O.A.L.S are the principles which the OSU Honors and Scholars programs are built around. The G.O.A.L.S serves to guide and facilitate the honors and scholars students with shaping their careers, future plans, and aspirations.

Global awareness is the G in goals. The principle behind global awareness is to enlighten and educate students in the diverse cultures and ideas around the globe. Experiencing and embracing diversity bolsters a students understanding of opinions and ideas. I plan to increase my global awareness by participating in a study abroad and learning a different language.

The O in goals stands for original inquiry. Original inquiry serves to build the fundamentals for students to create original research. The ability to create original research is an imperative skill to have for those interested in research heavy majors. Since I am majoring in astrophysics, I am considering doing research or internships related to the astrophysical field.

Academic enrichment is the A in goals. Academic enrichment aims to steer honors and scholars students toward pursuing rigorous curriculum and experiences. Rigorous curriculum exposes students to a plethora of different ideas and opportunities. In fact, academic enrichment can occur beyond the scope of the classroom. Internships and clubs could serve as academic enrichment given the right criteria. I plan to pursue academic enrichment within the classroom by taking rigorous and honors courses, and GE’s that I think will enrichment my understanding of the world. Outside of the class I plan on becoming apart of a physics learning community to enrich my understanding and build beneficial social networks.

Leadership is the L in goals. It is encourages that students pursue leadership roles or experience leadership, in the community, co-curricular activities, and in the classroom. Building leadership is pivotal for students to be able to express themselves and communicate effectively in any environment. I plan to build my leadership by participating in class discussions and possibly becoming a TA or tutor for a subject I am very proficient in. Additionally I could volunteer my time with marching band over the summer and teach marching fundamentals to incoming candidates interested in trying out for the band.

And lastly the S in goals stands for service. Service allows students back to the community and become an active citizen in the community. To fulfill my service requirement for goals, I intend on participating in various community service activities around campus. Likewise, the marching band hosts a plethora of community events and I plan on participating in those.
