Module 7: Motivation

Dear students,

The most useful thing I learned from this module was that working out is a natural stress reliever. I used to be really big into working out and lifting in previous semesters. This semester in particular has been tough for me to work out as much as I used to or even at all because of the workload I have had this semester. So after reading through this module I started to work out this week again and it has really opened my eyes to how much less stressed I am on a daily basis. Even if it is only a small workout. The module this week pointed out many apps and tools to use for various aspects of life. One of the apps that stuck out to me is an app called workout trainer. This app is very useful for logging, tracking, and creating workouts. It has so many options to choose from. I have implemented this app into my daily routine now by creating my workouts and tracking what workouts I have completed. This helps me tremendously by keeping me honest with what workouts I am completing and for reducing my stress levels on a daily basis. So all in all, this app has worked great and I will continue to use this app for a while.

 

On the other hand, I have a bad habit of waking up in the morning with just barely enough time to walk to class or drive to work without any morning routine. This module talked about why having a morning routine is so important. I never really realized how important and how useful it can be to have. In the future I would really like to set up a morning routine that I implement every day regardless if I don’t have anything until later in the day. Overall, this will allow me to be more motivated for the day and will hopefully increase my productivity on a daily basis.

 

With that being said, I would advise all of you reading this post who are struggling with the same things as me to start a workout routine and have a morning routine that you do every day so that it will hopefully increase your production and motivation while reducing your overall stress levels.

Module 6: Boolean Logic discussion

Students,

The most useful thing I learned in this module was the Boolean logic. After watching the video in our lesson this week in Module 6, I have learned a lot more about what Boolean logic is and what it all entails. Previously as a college student I have had to write many research papers. I have had a hard time finding good sources. I haven’t utilized the Boolean logic while conducting research so the time I have previously spent on research has been double of what I could be researching at because I am only searching for one thing at a time when I could be combining search keywords to make my searching more efficient. One thing that I have already been utilizing in my research is making sure that all of the sources I find are credible, reliable, and can be utilized effectively throughout my paper. I plan on utilizing the Boolean logic in my research in the future to have the ability to do great research in a timely manner. It will allow me to filter through sources more efficiently. I would strongly advise other students reading this blog post to try to utilize the Boolean strategy in the future if they haven’t already figured it out as it can be very helpful in conducting research. In addition, in my college experience, using Wikipedia as a source for collegiate papers and research are not widely acceptable due to the fact that anyone can technically write a Wikipedia page. They tend to not be a credible source for information.

Procrastination module 3

Dear Students,

I have been struggling with bad procrastination throughout my entire college and academic career. I have put off assignments until the night before they are due for a long time now. I have been doing better lately with this but, it is still very prevalent in my life. To counter this bad habit, I have purchased an assignment notebook (like we were required to have in gradeschool) and it has allowed me to write down my assignments and other comments/notes about all of my classes. This has allowed me to track when my assignments are due. It also allows me to physically see the time I have left between assignment due dates. I found that physically seeing the time I have in between assignments tremendously helpful because I have been just thinking in my head “oh I have two days left to turn this in” but I didn’t really allow my mind to think of the other things going on throughout those two days before the due date. A majority of the time I wouldn’t realize that I already had committed to things that take up the time I was thinking I had to do the assignment. This would force me to do lesser quality work to get the assignments done on time. With the notebook, I am able to plan out my week and continually update it every time something comes up. This ultimately allows me to combat my procrastination when completing assignments.

Communicating and Collaborating

Dear Students,

The most useful thing I learned this week in regards to time management was to limit the distractions that I have in my study space. My study space is my bedroom. In my bedroom I have an xbox, a TV, and my Ipad. All of these together and separately are very big distractions for me when I am trying to settle down and get work done. These may be some of the same distractions for you. To combat these distractions, I have forced myself to take myself onto campus to do my studying, particularly the library. This has proved to be a tremendous help in allowing me to focus on my material without the distractions I have at home. In the future I will expand on this idea of eliminating distractions by purchasing a schedule planner to Help me map out my weeks so I know what assignments that I have coming up. I would advise you all to do the same. Schedule planners are a great way to eliminate unneeded stress of procrastination. With this blog being an “online journal that allows an individual to share thoughts with their classmates”, I thought that it was imperative to share this information with you guys.
