Year in Review

In the past year I have greatly changed. I came into my freshman year of college being a shy, quiet kid and by the end of the year I believe I am much more open, talkative, and embracing of college life. During my first semester I had the opportunity to be involved in Greek-life when I joined Pi Lambda Phi. I didn’t think I would join a fraternity coming into college, but I met a bunch of people that had similar interests and aspirations so it seemed like a place that was right for me. In college my study habits and the way I approached school changed drastically too. In high school I always relied on my smarts to ease my way through classes, but college classes showed me that I need to devote more time to studying and learning. Through Health Science Scholars I became a better communicator and was exposed to the multitude of opportunities that can be explored after my undergraduate days are over. My HSS peer leader played a vital role in easing my way into college life and was always there to be a guiding figure for me. Overall, I believe that I have changed in a majorly positive way as I am now much more comfortable with college life and I am very excited to see what kind of opportunities next year and the years after that will hold.

About Me

My name is Brandon Barash. I am from New Albany, Ohio which is a suburb about 25 minutes away from campus. In high school I was on the varsity ice hockey and soccer teams. Some of my ice hockey accomplishments include being the all time points leader for my school, the all time assists leader for my school, and winning the district championship my senior year. Unfortunately I did not get to play in the state semifinal due to it being cancelled because of the coronavirus. I finished high school with over a 4.0 gpa and was in the school’s leadership group. In my free time I enjoy playing/watching sports, hanging out with friends, traveling, and spending time with my family. My family consists of my dad, my mom, my sister, and my dog. Some pieces of information that are unique about me are that I am the first American born person in my whole family and that I am Jewish.

I am a freshman and I am currently a biochemistry major. I am a member of the Health Sciences Scholars program because I wanted to gain connections with people that have similar interests and goals as me. I chose to become a biochemistry major because I am very interested in all sciences, particularly biology and chemistry. Additionally being a biochemistry major will provide me with a background for one of my goals in life, going to medical school. Another goal in my life is to become a plastic surgeon. In the summer of 2019 I interned with a plastic surgeon at a hospital and watched many different types of surgeries which made me want to become a plastic surgeon myself. Other goals that I have for my life include getting married, having a family, moving to a place with warm weather, and traveling the world.
