ENR Final Reflection

The highlight of my ENR experience was spending time with my saplings at the beginning of my second year. It was really fun getting to know other ENR scholars and the ideas they had for the program. It was fun watching them get more involved and learn more about what they wanted their experience at OSU to look like.

ENR did a very good job of creating a community feeling the first couple weeks of school. This was very helpful and made the transition to college much easier. Because of that, I have met many good friends with similar interests. ENR also taught me a lot about working in teams. Many of our activities involved some aspect of teamwork or learning something from someone else.

Because of ENR I am much more conscious of my energy consumption and have been implementing basic practices to reduce it. I will definitely continue to do them and hope to pick up more once I’m out of the dorms. My off campus housing will allow me to implement energy efficient fixtures such as light bulbs and windows. I also recently became co-chair of the sustainability committee of my fraternity. With the help of some other members, I would like to make sure recycling is available at all of our off campus houses and adjust how we handle waste management. Hopefully this will create a positive impact on the community and environment.

I would advise new ENR scholars to try and use ENR as a way to get involved in other student organizations. Many ENR scholars are members of other sustainability organizations in and around campus. This allows for specializing in promoting sustainability in a specific ways that may be more appealing. ENR also provided a lot of knowledge on how to carry out sustainability projects.
