The Packer has three major responsibilities in getting bananas to the market. After they receive the bananas from the grower, they must be broken up into their groups and then washed, wrapped and packaged (Hamer, Ed). Then, the workers are responsible for placing them in boxes and subsequently putting those boxes onto pallets. When this is done, the boxes are given specific Serial Shipping Container Codes that will be used later to know where and when the product was packed. After this is complete, the product is sent to either a shipping company, or directly to the port to be transported (Banana Supply Chain Traceability).
