ACES Movie Project

In our ACES class, we were assigned a project where we, in groups of four or five, had to watch a film concerning a social injustice and analyze it in a presentation. The films offered to us ranged from topics such as human trafficking, to sexual assaults on college campuses, to hate crimes against the LGBTQQIAPP + ALLIES community. Our group chose the film Lost for LifeLost for Life was a documentary covering the controversial subject of serving life imprisonment sentences to those who committed crimes as juveniles. The topic is very intensely debated in the public. Many believe that life imprisonment for juveniles is an unfair punishment, as they are not fully grown yet mentally, and therefore should not be judged by any crimes committed during their developmental stages. Others are staunch supporters of life imprisonment for juveniles and argue the opposite, that a crime is a crime regardless of age and should be legally handled as such. The film covers the stories of several individuals currently serving the life imprisonment sentence for crimes committed as children and adolescents. I really liked this project as it exposed me to the social issue and allowed me to develop my own opinions on the topic.
