Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. G.O.A.L.S.

G.O.A.L.S Essay

As a Mount Scholar I would like to follow every aspect of G.O.A.L.S. The reason for this is that I believe it necessary to make a difference as college students in The Ohio State community and even outside it. I would like to make an impact in diversity by creating clubs that focus on meeting people from different origins and having sufficient time to learn about each of them. I plan do participate and lead research throughout every year of my Ohio State experience especially in the field of psychology. I am writing a book on psychology and I plan it to be heavily research based in order to formulate an accurate idea/concept. I am a neuroscience major and already have difficult classes given to me without my input. Therefore, my job as a scholar is to broaden my knowledge away fro my major (for example: taking a philosophy class instead of taking another science class aka 40% of my classes in my Ohio State experience. I believe that the leadership aspect of G.O.A.L.S is the one that interests me the most and I feel it my responsibility to grow as a leader outside of Mount and into different organizations with the qualities that I learned in Mount. Lastly, I believe that openness in service is an important quality to have because focusing in one type of service (such as health) is selfish in the sense that you believe the issues faced in health are worse or more important than other issues. I want to expand on different aspect of service and I believe that Legacy month will be a great way to experience different types of service.

Career

[“Career” is where you can collect information about your experiences and skills that will apply to your future career.  Like your resume, this is information that will evolve over time and should be continually updated.   For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. Artifacts

An artifact that represents me is my grandmother’s cross that I wear everyday. It is a gold necklace that represents my devotion to God and his teachings through the Bible. My mother gave me the necklace when I was sixteen years old and means a lot more to me than what its actual value is because it represents the passing of the my grandmother’s legacy to me. To our family the necklace kind of represents the the passing of the leadership responsibilities involving the family to whoever wears it. My grandmother passed it down to my mother out of six possible children because she believed that my mother was the most fit for keeping the family in balance. My mother then passed it down to me even though she would have given it to one of my cousins if she felt they deserved it more than I did. So to me the necklace is not just gold and valuable, it is a responsibility that was handed down to me and that I am willing to accept.

About Me

Photo on 9-7-15 at 5.57 PM #3

My name is Andres Ballesteros and I am a Neuroscience Major at The Ohio State University. I am involved in Mount Leadership Society, which is a scholars organization that focuses on volunteering around the community of Columbus. Leadership is an aspect of my life that I find extremely important and necessary in order to improve society as a whole. That is the primary reason for me initially joining Mount. This Scholars organization is so much more than leadership because through our volunteer projects we will learn that great leaders have to sacrifice themselves more than any other worker or employee or student for the betterment of the group. I am the captain of the Mount Intramural Soccer Team that was organized in September in order to have a fun environment outside of academics for students to enjoy. Leadership is embellished in a multitude of organizations at The Ohio State University and that means leadership is inside most Buckeyes. I cannot wait to explore more leadership opportunities at The Ohio State University as I imagine every single one of the m will teach something new and important.
