Lecture Reflection- Public Affairs and Social Work

I attended this lecture because I was interested in the Social Work major. From what I heard in the lecture, this major fits aspects of both my strengths and my interests. One  of the presenters spoke about how social workers deal with solving problems, not in the same sense as engineers, but in the sense of finding different strategies to help people they are working with. I believe that problem solving is one of my strengths. Furthermore, I think that this major fits my interests because I’m interested in helping others, which is at the core of this major and profession. For these reasons, I believe the social work major fits by strengths and interests.

I chose to attend this lecture in order to learn more about the major and profession of social work. I was not very interested in the Public Affairs major. Prior to the lecture, I had a vague idea about the subject of social work, but the people who spoke at the lecture definitely helped to provide me with more information. The most interesting thing I learned in the lecture was about the different environments that social workers can work in. A social worker can be employed in a variety of settings, such as classrooms, hospitals, and households.

I don’t have many questions about this major, as the presentation given provided a lot of useful information. My thoughts about the social work major and profession have changed in a positive way as a result of this lecture. This is because the speakers were very helpful in explaining the details of social work. The presenters also addressed common concerns about the major that students may hold. this was also very helpful in gauging my interest in the social work major.
