About Me

Hi! I’m Meredith Baker and I am from Newark, Ohio. Currently, I am majoring in biology on the pre-med track with a global public health minor. I would like to do undergraduate research for biology as well as a study abroad that ties to the global public health minor. After undergrad, I plan to go to medical school to become a physician or possibly a pediatrician. I have a passion for helping others get the care they need regardless of their financial status or where they live. Everyone deserves a happy and healthy lifestyle.

My goals are to get into the honors program as well as getting more involved with service activities like BuckeyeThon. Another one of my goals is also to get into med school which can be pretty difficult, so we will see how it goes!

I grew up an only child with my two amazing parents Julie and Gary. My best friend, Lilly, was the closest thing to a sister I had and she is my other half. My loving friends and family helped me become the strong, kind, fun-loving buckeye I am today and I wouldn’t be here without them. I will use everything they taught me to build my future here at The Ohio State University.

My top five strengths are Positivity, Harmony, Woo, Futuristic, and Developer. At first I did not connect much with my developer strength but as I read into it I began to understand why it was in my top five. I always seek the potential of others and want to help them grow. Futuristic makes a lot of sense to me because I am such a big planner. I like to have a set plan for each day and I set long and short term goals for myself. Woo represents my social side because I tend to be more extroverted. Harmony shows how I dislike conflict and I try to find an agreement with people. Finally, Positivity is my top strength and this truly shows who I am. I always try to look on the brighter side of each day and I really enjoy life. My strengths represent me very well.

Columbus To-Do #1

My group decided to go to the restaurant Melt for our Columbus experience on October 20th at around 3:30 for a late lunch. I really enjoyed Melt! I have been there before and I really like the food they have there. The only thing I don’t like about Melt is that sometimes if they are too busy, the service can be spotty and it can be a little slow. Next time I go, I may try and get something new instead of just getting the same sandwich I get every time. They have a lot on the menu, but a lot of them are not the usual menu items so it can be kind of risky to what you might get. I would definitely recommend it to a friend and I would definitely go back. Melt is such a fun place that has something everyone can eat. Also, they use local ingredients AND they are only in Ohio (Woo! Ohio!)

Here is my group at Melt!

Columbus To Do #2

For the second to do list, on November 11th, 2018, Rachel Pierce, Tiana Stussie, Kristen Wood and I went to the burger restaurant called Eden Burger in the short north for lunch. Eden Burger has a completely vegan menu, which was important because Rachel is vegan and Kristen is vegetarian! The menu was a little pricey but they had many options for burgers, fries, wings, milkshakes, smoothies and other drinks. The place was a little smaller with benches and little booths to sit at. They also had garden boxes on the walls that were very cute and added to the decor. I decided to get the California burger which was a black bean burger with pepper jack vegan cheese, and avocado with a side of fries. It was delicious! I would definitely go back, however, it is not somewhere you eat all the time because of the price and because it was very filling. It would be a good spot to meet someone who is vegetarian or vegan even if you are not because, even though everything is vegan, it can be something everyone can enjoy!

Here we are at Eden Burger!

Artifacts

Artifact 1-Journal .

My artifact that represents my achievements is my journal. Sure, journaling can be kind of nerdy but it really helps me reflect and calm down from the stressors in life. I tend to look pretty far into the future and sometimes I lose sight of the great things that are right in front of me. When I journal, I focus on me at that very moment and write down how I feel and what may be going on. Then, I can look back at my past writings and notice my growth. My journal is very important to me because it connects me to who I am and who I have become. I plan to keep using my journal and continue to use it to reflect.

Artifact 2-Note from my parents

My second artifact is a note on the back of the care package receipt from my mom and dad. I received the care package from my parents and on the back of the receipt, there was a note with some funny stickers. The note read “8-ball says it’s all going to be okay! Love you most, the mom and the dad”. At the time when I had gotten the note, I had been struggling quite a bit. I was struggling with classes, I was homesick, I was constantly tired and so on. But when I read it, I could hear my mom telling me that it is going to be okay and joking with me to make me feel better. And I really needed it.  This note helps me remember that it is okay to struggle and in the end it will all work out for the better. It also reminds me that my family is always there for me and it reminds me how much they care. The note now hangs on my bulletin board as a daily reminder.
