Molly on the Shore-Percy Grainger

  • I fell in love with music while playing this piece. It is my goal to play the solo one day. I have had the solo memorized for 4 years.

Piano Man-Billy Joel

  • I can listen to this song on repeat forever. I love the emotion Billy sings with and it helps me connect to it. Plus it’s very catchy.

Danzon no. 2- Arturo Márquez

  • This was my first big solo with a full band. I helped my gain confidence in my sound. I messed up at the performance but that’s ok!

Shut up and Dance- Walk the moon

  • I forgot to download a lot of music when I got my new phone so this song was on repeat for two weeks while I was in Europe. I would fall asleep to it on the bus and it is forever embedded in my brain.

Relic-I don’t know who composed it and can’t find it on the internet

  • This piece was played on my Europe trip and it ran through my head as I entered the cathedral of Prague. The moment was so beautiful that I cried and no pictures I took can ever do that cathedral justice.

River flows in You-Yiruma

  • The first full piece I ever learned on piano. I have all of it memorized and it’s super easy but I look impressive when I play it.

Concerning Hobbits-Howard Shore

  • I am obsessed with Lord of the Rings and hearing this always makes me smile. Plus, the main theme is performed on clarinet!

Circle of Life-Elton John

  • Lion King was my first Broadway show and I will always remember the opening scene where all of the actors are dressed as animals!

Strength Quest Reflection

The lecture I attended on Thursday was very beneficial, however, what I found that spoke to me the most was when Ryan Provost talked about weaknesses. He raised the question of whether or not focusing on weaknesses, betters you as a person more than focusing on strengths. Many people believe that weaknesses are a problem that must be dealt with, or else you can’t be as successful as you could be in life. In class we discussed if our weaknesses are really weaknesses at all, or if they’re only weaknesses if you let them hold you back. That really opened my eyes to the thought of focusing on my strengths more instead of my weaknesses.

My number one strength was Analytical. My report signature stated that my analytical strength lies in my reliance on facts. For example, on the topic of politics, I do not make decisions unless I know facts on the subject. This means I spend a lot of time on research before I vote, or even debate, in order to make an informed decision.

My second strength was Strategic. This strength allows me to plan and ask “What if?” questions. I use this skill in every day life as a form of time management. With all of my classes, I have a lot of homework and practicing to do. This requires me to plan out every aspect of my day to see what I should do in the time that I have to be the most productive. This ensures that I get good grades and helps me fell less stressed.

My third strength was Relator. This strength involves me taking risks in order to have deep relationships with others. I find that I do that in most relationships I have. Sometimes, having an intimate relationship with others means putting faith in them and entrusting them with the deeper parts of you. This is a risk because sometimes people can’t be trusted and they end up breaking your heart. However this does not discourage me to continuing to try to make other friendships in the same way.

Marielle Lynch Photo Project

IMG_1165

This is Marielle Lynch! She’s from Pennsylvania, around the Pittsburg area. I met her through her roommate, Abby, who I met in my clarinet studio. Marielle is a business major whose art interest is playing the flute and dancing! I chose to take a picture of her doing a cartwheeling because, one, she loves to dance; and two, to display her infectiously happy personality. Every time I see Marielle, she is smiling. It’s hard to be unhappy around her! She’s very sociable too! It wasn’t awkward meeting her like it is around other people I have been around. With most people, it’s really difficult to have a steady conversation or find topics to talk about. However with Marielle, she immediately acted as though we were best friends and I felt so accepted by both her and Abby. Finding a picture to display her personality was really difficult. I knew it had to be something with her smiling. We tried a ton of different things. I took a picture of her laughing, dancing, eating (because who isn’t happy when they’re eating), and at one point she ran at me whilst cracking up. That picture came out to look pretty scary! I ended up choosing this one because she was so dedicated to getting her feet to stay pointed throughout the entire cartwheel. She worked way too hard for me to not use one of the many pictures of her cartwheeling on my phone. I’ve been out with her twice already and am really excited to continue getting to know her in the future!
