imovie

imovie project.

i love videography, so i had so much fun with this project! i knew this assignment was coming up, so i made sure to take a ton of videos on my trip to north carolina over spring break with my fiancé. i took tons of videos of the scenery and of different activities preston and i took part in. the major theme of this video is finding joy through adventure. preston and i love to travel and go on trips together. we find so much joy through getting to explore new places and do new things together, it is a big part of who we are as a couple. since we are long distance right now, we only get to experience each others presence through traveling in some way. until we get married this summer, a huge part of preston and i’s identity is traveling. i felt like through making this video i got to capture my love for preston on camera.

through making this video i first chose a song i wanted to put the video to, one that would capture the mood i was going for. then i compiled all of my clips from the trip. i then ordered my clips to best tell my story of the trip to the beach. my method was to alternate between clips i took of the scenery and clips i took of preston. i then decided to go on every clip and slow it down to really emphasize each moment. i set the videos to the song by making sure the clip changed with the beat of the song. lastly, to fulfill the requirements of this assignment, i added a .png photo of birds to the first clip of the video because it seemed to be the most fitting place for it.

week 8

wedding hashtag sign for 3D graphic design.

for this assignment, i created a sign to display at my upcoming wedding to tell my guests what hashtag to use on their photos on instagram. wedding hashtags allow people to easily find a group of photos from a specific event. this creation is meaningful to me because my wedding is meaningful to me. i am so excited to   marry my best friend. my individual identity is shown through this sign because part of my identity will change through getting married.

in this photo i used the 3D feature on my text to make the text look hollow. i used the instagram logo and made it 3D keeping the shadow. the background was a .png watercolor mark that i added a 3D feature to.

week 7

editing this magazine cover was a lot of fun, it was interesting to experiment with fonts and colors. this pushed me out of my comfort zone because i am very plain, so i would naturally tend to pick the same fonts and the same colors. when choosing colors, i chose black, white, a darker blue than the background, and a dark orange to compliment the blue. i thought it would be fun to put a saying such as “look your best” over the picture of my friend and i. each little blurb on the side draws your attention through the graphic design.

the identity portrayed in this magazine cover is one of bridesmaids. there are tons of magazines for brides, but not many for the women who help. as i am planning my wedding, i know it would be helpful for bridesmaids to have a magazine full of resources. the identity of bridesmaids is that they tend to stay in the background, but with this magazine, i want to portray that they too, can look their best.

week 6

long exposure photos capture a story through light.

when i was capturing these photos i found that the hardest thing was to hold the camera still,

i was frustrated at the imperfect photos i was capturing.

then, as i began to edit these photos, i realized that these photos capture my personal identity.

imperfection.

in a way, everyone strives for perfection and it’s impossible.

i decided that i didn’t want to try to fix the imperfections with a filter because

they really captured the essence of my imperfection.

so for the editing, i lowered the exposure to put more emphasis on the light trails.

this lowered exposure brings out the imperfections even more,

revealing the story of all the photos.

week 5

for all of these images, the healing edit brush was used to clear up the faces of the subjects and make them have clear skin and a fresh glow. for the edited professional photo, i thought it was necessary to edit and adjust the color of the overall photo. as for the other photos, i thought it was fun to use the transform tool to create a reflection and put it on the other side the photo. the colors were adjusted to draw out the background scenery. as for the free edited photos, it was fun to put a small person in another photo and create a contrast in color and brightness between the photos – to really show that they do not belong together. the last photo is similar to the first with just the colors adjusted to bring out the professionalism in this photo.

week 4

closed composition

open composition

thirds composition

thirds composition

symmetrical composition

my personal identity is portrayed in the photos above.

i’m telling my story in each of these photos.

the first closed composition photo of the plant portrays my love of succulents and all things green.

i want people to see the time and the effort it takes to grow even just a little succulent like that one.

the photo makes a statement by just showing the plant and nothing else, the white background gives emphasis to the colors.

in the open composition photo of the bridge, i want people to see my love of adventure.

the sunset in the background makes the shapes in the bridge more defined.

the thirds composition photo of the barn portrays love to me.

my fiance and i are getting married in this barn this summer.

by putting the barn in thirds composition, you’re able to see the front yard of the barn,

where our ceremony will take place.

the photo of the sunset in the thirds composition is a picture that captures what i believe.

i see how big god is and how wonderful his creation is in these sunsets.

the photo becomes more artsy when the sun is placed in thirds.

the symmetrical composition photo portrays a place that is very near and dear to my heart.

this photo shows a picture of a young life camp, a place where i have seen so many lives change.

by using the symmetrical silhouette of the windows, you can clearly see the camp in the background.

without people in these photos, it is easier to focus on the message of the photo.

week 3

as a student at ohio state, one might assume that a large part of my identity would come from the major i am in, or the classes i am taking, or the activities i am involved in.

however, a large part of who i am as a person and a student of ohio state is the house i live in on campus.

this house contains eight girls and so much genuine friendship.

at the end of each day, each student at ohio state has a place to rest their head.

a huge part of our “collective identity” is the places we call home. this is my home.

my home has impacted my personal identity because the girls that live here have changed me, they have helped me grow and know myself better.

they push me and give me confidence to be the woman i was created to be.

normal photo.

under exposure.

over exposure.

cool tone.

warm tone.

completing this creative task has taught me about how the temperature and exposure effect the subject’s identity.

when it comes to personal preference, i prefer a photo that is very very slightly over exposed. i enjoy the lightness of a photo, bringing it more vibrance and life.

when a photo is underexposed, it makes it feel as though the picture is portraying something dark and negative rather than positive.

i think this is similar to the feel a cool tone gives to a picture. a cool tone portrays gloominess.

a warm tone gives the opposite feel and gives the photo more of a ‘sunset’ feeling.
