Community Commitment

To this day, I still believe one of the most important things that I have been a part of has been community commitment here at OSU. I live in the area, and so seeing the hundreds upon hundreds of people who went out to the city and the neighboring cities really made me feel as if a difference in my community and my home was being benefitted. The goal of my group was to aid my home community of Dublin by going to an area near the Scioto river, and removing honeysuckle. Honeysuckle is an invasive species in the area that has overrun many of the local areas, making it difficult for local species of plants to grow. My group and I got to grab the clippers and saws, and we essentially cut down a forest worth of honeysuckle. While it was hard to see how we were benefitting the community becauseimg_4750 we weren’t working directly with anyone who required help, I know that we made a difference. I was only 1 of 1200 people there, and that means that there are so many people who are committed to making change in the community, and therefore my home.
