In having to describe myself, I’d be doing a disservice to not bring up the origins of this picture, and what it means to me. This picture was taken an early October morning, 2013, before my first ever Model United Nations conference, and granted, I performed horribly after I had taken this picture, but the actual enjoyment itself I gathered from the event and its subsequent similar occasions could never be overshadowed by any perhaps less than stellar performance, even though in the end I had gotten enough awards to justify to myself that I wasn’t too bad. What was so important about Model U.N. to me was that it summarized everything I could consider myself, a good speaker, cunning with interpersonal skills, tactical and strategic in advancing my goals and in turn very scientific and logical in determining the best course of action, but beyond these traits, M.U.N. demonstrated to me that I had what it takes to be a leader, both for myself and for others. This determination I felt for leadership, and a passion for learning, is what ended up leading me to the Ohio State University.
As for my academic and career goals, I hope that I can establish myself as a highly efficient worker and leader in group projects, particularly in research, which I intend to pursue in the field of physics, and the efficiency and good work ethic I hope to extend to self-lead projects as well. By the end of my life, I hope to have truly mastered my field and perhaps others, and intend on pursuing a higher degree, if not many. Professionally, I see myself working in the public sector, perhaps conducting research at a national laboratory or participating in large scale academic committees to try and guide the nation (or others, perhaps) towards greatness and success in science, perhaps utilizing the International Relations skills I already have along with those I’ll learn in pursuing my minor in conjunction with those I will have gained in Engineering Physics (maybe a Nuclear Engineering specialization) to try and mix statecraft and science into a beautiful amalgamation to try and forward both fields. I may be naive, yet I hope to end up somewhere of importance by the end of college, and definitely at the end of my life, leaving a mark on history.
With all that said, many of my passions lie in different areas, whether it be chess, board games such as Axis and Allies, watching films and TV shows, occasionally drawing, tinkering with small mechanical creations like Nerf guns time to time, travel, and most importantly a strong interest in political philosophy as well as the sciences. I hope with this Freshman “About Me” I can meet some people with similar interests and goals, and that we can meet each other in a format beyond digital. Thank you very much for reading.
