My personal profile – class 1901

Description: This post is an assignment where we were required to write about something personal. I decided to write about my achievements since I entered the United States.

My name is Umu Bah, I live in Worthington. I have two children, a girl, and a boy. They are both college students. I’m currently working at The Ohio State University Medical Center (OSUMC) as a registered nurse. I am interested in furthering my nursing education in Psychiatric

Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). I’m planning to apply this fall to get into the program. Since English is my second language and I’m weak in writing and grammar skills, I certain that starting by taking an English class would be beneficial to me. I decided to seek advice to get me into an English class that can help me improve my writing and grammar skills. I took a placement test and got into this level of English class. I’m hoping that by the end of this course, I will be prepared to enroll in the next English class -1902 and I will be able to write a good acceptance application essay to get into the PMHNP program.

I came to the USA in 1997. I got my GED. I started working as a Home Health Aide at a nursing home. There I first gained interest in the nursing career. I enrolled in a Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program then passed my board exam and started working as an LPN. While I was working as an LPN, I decided to get my Registered Nurse License (RN). I enrolled at Columbus State Community College (CSCC); I completed my prerequisites and got accepted into the Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Registered Nurse (BSN & RN) program

at Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU). I earned my BSN and RN degree. I took my RN board exam and passed it. Then I started working at Mount Carmel West Hospital for about 4 years. I started working at The OSUMC about 2 years ago. I have gained a lot of experience in the nursing profession in general. As a result, I have decided to get my master’s degree in PMHNP. These are some of the major transitions I have made in my life in America.

Finally, I chose to study at OSU when I first started to think of employee benefits that are been offered to staff. I decided to take advantage of the tuition benefit so I can advance my educational level. I enrolled at OSU to start my career path. I have gained a lot of experience in different areas of nursing calling. I have made a decision to get my master’s degree in PMHNP here at OSU if I get accepted into the program. PMHNP is one of the areas in nursing that I am passionate about because I am a good listener, I like to give good advice to people, and show empathy to others. With such personalities that I have, I believe getting my master’s degree in PMHNP will be a good fit for me. Also, from my general nursing experience for many years working on the field of nursing and talking to my colleagues, I can say that the demand of PMHNP is one of the areas in nursing that is increasingly high. So, for my evaluation to get my master’s degree in PMHNP is the right decision that will help me contribute to professionals in my community.

  1. Hi Umu Bah, I like your profile! I have two friends who are studying nurse now in my original school. Even don’t need them to complain to me, I can understand how stressful and hard to prepare for the exams and interviews. The health workers are always groups of people who need to pay a lot of efforts and also accept hefty responsibilities. I really appreciate your efforts in daily life, especially during this special time. In the end, I hope you achieve your target to get into your dreaming program successfully and also get great improvement from this class.

  2. Hi! I’m Jiaxu. Nice to meet you! I really really admire your experience and passion to keep improving yourself. And the nursing field is so meaningful and respectful to humankind. I bet you’ll get the master’s degree of PMHNP(though I know nothing about it, even the name is so hard to memory for me). Wish the writing courses 1901 and 1902 would help to write the essay. Best wishes! 😉
