Columbus To Do List: Part 1

For the Columbus To Do List, my roommate Phil and I decided to explore the local food places in Columbus. Since we are both foodies and love to eat (me especially), exploring the local cuisine would kill two birds with one stone. I, personally, also want to experience different cultural foods. So we decided to visit a few places down on High Street, our first two restaurants (in this “long” foodie journey) being the Lavash Cafe and the Northstar Cafe (the one in Clintonville). Starting off with the Lavash Cafe, all I can say is one thing: it was amazing! The Mediterranean restaurant itself is not too big, and it seemed to be a semi-busy place. It utilized some great modern restaurant-like techniques, such as using pagers to let customers know when their food is ready, WiFi (probably the best part of the restaurant), and even a phone charging station. Now, to get to the good part: the food. Even though Phil and I only ordered one dish off the menu, him ordering a chicken shawarma with garlic sauce wrapped in lavash bread and me getting a gyro with tzatziki sauce also wrapped in lavash bread, that one dish was enough to impress us. My wrap tasted very, very good, good enough to call it one of my favorite foods after only trying it once. Phil was also impressed with his wrap, and both of us were amazed that such great food could be bought for so cheap (only $8 for each of our wraps!). After satisfying our hunger, Phil and I headed to the Northstar Cafe to get something to wash down our food. This time, only I was impressed by the restaurant (as Phil has already visited it previously). The restaurant was bigger than the Lavash Cafe and looked “physically” more modern. Phil ordered a ginger ale and I ordered a coffee-cola, both being their specialty drinks. I don’t like/drink coffee (unpopular opinion), but decided to give that drink a try for the sake of being a foodie (and because it had cola in it). The drink amazed me, as I have never tasted anything so coffee-like and yet like soda. My amazement, however, began to decline as I drank more and more because the taste started to get worse and worse. Nevertheless, I am glad that Phil and I went to both of these places and got to experience a new food and new drink. I would definitely recommend both of the places to my friends or anybody who asked, and will most certainly go back at some point (definitely to the Lavash Cafe though!). 5/5 stars on Yelp to both place! Bravo!
