Journal 2

A few weeks ago, I met up with my Scholars Family mentor Evan Rice. We met at the Tera Byte Cafe after all my classes, and talked for about an hour. This is the first time we ever had a one-on-one conversation, and it was really nice to finally get to talk to him. Apart from talking about how much of your work and time college uses up, I learned that it is very important to know in what environment you can accomplish the most work in. Wether it be in a library or in your own dorm, knowing in which place you can be the most productive in doing homework and studying is essential if you want to succeed academically. This can also be applied for future references, as jobs require you to accomplish work as well and knowing what environment pressures you to do so is the difference between success and failure. Another thing I learned from Evan is that I should create a schedule of everything, including classes, clubs, events, and other things. Keeping yourself organized and knowing what is when and when homework is due makes remembering things a lot easier and less stressful. Evan also told many personal stories, one of which was about him making lunch at his place during the other day and, before knowing it, making lunch for several days (I think he said for a week?). He told me that sometimes you have to plan ahead for things, his “thing” being lunch. After having this nice talk, Evan and I left on good terms. I am now more comfortable in reaching out to him in the future, and I am hopeful that he can give me more advice on “How To College 101.”
