Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. G.O.A.L.S.

One example of how I have acted along the GOALS guideline is by participating in service. I participated in Community Commitment, which sent a group to Patches of Light which helps unfortunate children. The group was sent to help renovate the garden area. We weeded an overgrown part of the garden and planted a few plants to fill the open space. We also built a containment box for a new section of the garden. We added topsoil and placed new plants in the box.  The people were very warm and appreciative of our help.

Career

[“Career” is where you can collect information about your experiences and skills that will apply to your future career.  Like your resume, this is information that will evolve over time and should be continually updated.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. Artifact 1

An item which reflects my academic outlook is my “my intent” bracelet. The word which is inscribed on the bracelet is persevere.  I chose this word because it is a reminder of what I must do to achieve success. Much of past my success in and out of school has been due to the large amount of work I have done since I am disadvantaged in many ways. Now that I am in college, I find myself in many situations in which I lack the motivation to complete a task. This bracelet is a reminder to me of how far I have come and how much further I have to go. Because no matter what challenge I face, work must be done to succeed.

About Me

I am Nicholas Baetz; I am from Columbus, Ohio. I graduated from Saint Charles Preparatory School on Honor Roll for every quarter.  I was a member of the National Honor Society; within which, I tutored struggling students in Latin I and Algebra I.  Through my school and church, I participated in service which included soup kitchens, yard work for the elderly, environment clean up, and unloading food trucks. While in high school,  I was involved in a learning opportunity at The Ohio State University Medical Center. I shadowed medical physicists in the Radiation Oncology department at the James Cancer Center. I learned about the treatment planning process as well as the gamma knife and linear accelerator treatment. I have worked for Kurtz Brothers entering manifests at waste management facility.

I have had to work very hard to accomplish my goals because of certain obstacles in my life. Despite these challenges, I  have always been interested in building and taking apart machines. That is why I am pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering. Ohio State has given me many opportunities to better my career path; I have joined Formula Buckeye, and am learning the basic skills needed to construct a car. I am always open to new experiences.
