About

Hi my name is Chuck Backus I’m a 19 year old second year student at The Ohio State University studying Industrial Design. I’m from a small town outside Cleveland called Olmsted Falls, OH. My first year I was an engineering student because of my love for math and science, but as the year carried on I found out that my heart wasn’t there. It wasn’t until I started working with AutoDesk that I realized what I genuinely enjoyed doing.

I first got into computer design in high school where I spent all four years in high school working with AutoCad and Inventor, and even competed in state wide competitions like SKillsUSA for a couple of years. My senior year my team and I had finished 7th out of 40 some teams in the CNC Milling division, which was the highest our school had ever placed in that competition.

I am currently a part of the STEP program, as well as STEM Exploration and Engagement Scholars. I also participate in Stem Outreach where the group goes to underprivileged schools around Columbus and leads classes in fun stem activities that wouldn’t otherwise have the resources to do.

I believes design can be expressed in an infinite amount of ways. However in my opinion, design is how someone conveys and expresses their ideas whether that is in the form of solving a problem, expressing emotions, or simply creating something that you enjoy. I interpret design in many way shapes and forms and am excited to learn more throughout all types of people and platforms.
