As my second semester at Ohio State is coming to a close, it is a great time to reflect on all that I have experience thus far. Personally, I do not know where I would be without my scholars program, Dunn Sport and Wellness. Dunn Scholars has introduced me to some of my closest friends and allowed me to establish my community at Ohio State. Through my weekly scholars meetings, I have discovered my intense passion for wellness. To me, wellness is no longer strictly physical activity. It’s now much more than that. Wellness expands into every aspect of life and is a lifestyle that I choose to follow each and everyday. Additionally, I have realized that wellness is something I hope to carry into my professional career, and it is through the weekly meetings that I have come to this realization. The business professionals that speak at the weekly meetings are living proof that it is possible to incorporate wellness into your professional work, which drives me to continue working hard to reach my desired career path regardless of the path I take to get there. Some of the best life lessons that I have taken awake from my participation in the meetings includes: being an intentional individual, living in the moment, and realizing that failure is a necessary step in finding success. Upon entering Dunn Sports and Wellness Scholars, I was a narrow-minded individual that was set in her ways and always thought that there was only one right way to do things. However, after my short time in the scholars program, I have developed an open mindset that I now employ to analyze the difficult situations of everyday life, which allows me to view my troubles with a different, optimistic outlook. I now see there are many ways to approach pressing situations and there is not necessarily a proper way to do so. As I developed my much improved mindset, I was able to reach the academic goals that I had set for myself way back in August, which I again hope to achieve this spring semester. Overall I’m not sure where I would be without Dunn Scholars; therefore, I am extremely thankful for all that the opportunities this program has offered me.
