Eat. Go. Do.

Eat.

Despite growing up in a fairly diverse region and having many Polish friends, I had never indulged in their fantastic cuisine until arriving in Columbus. Being Italian, I always loved the my culture’s food but never managed to explore other options. The Polish food at the North Market is one of the best meals I have ever eaten. The pierogis were phenomenal and the chicken cheese meatball was equally as good. I think I found my favorite place to eat in Columbus.

One Sunday a friend and I went to the Ohio Capital Building which I have never been to before. I like history and government so I thought this was pretty cool. I probably would have never really thought to go here if someone had not suggested it. The history of the building and the things that transpired there are very interesting. The architecture is also very impressive. I would have never guessed that there is actually a dome within the building’s turret.

Do.

Columbus

My friend convinced me to go on a tour of Columbus with her one weekend and I am so glad I did. We stopped off in the Short North and the German village which were both really cool. I though I had seen basically everything Columbus had to offer but I was very wrong. The tour took us to several areas of town that were considered run down but up and coming. Along the way old and new architecture was pointed out to us. I am glad I got to see more of the city and the tour also provided us with someone background history on the region. All of it was very cool.

The assignments I have completed for the scholars seminar have forced me to utilize different resources and think about my goals for personal health that I probably would have avoided otherwise. For this reason, I am really glad that I have this seminar because I am now more focused on what I want to get from Ohio State. An example of how these assignments have refocused my lifestyle on campus comes from the health and wellness paper. I discussed several ways to maintain a balanced diet and how to fit work outs into my schedule. After conceptualizing this on paper I have stuck to it throughout the semester to the best of my ability. Even while studying for midterms I made it a point to get away from the books for a while and go running or lifting. The benefits of working out have not just been physical, but mental as well. Another assignment that was beneficial to me was the faculty member paper. I have been to a few office hours this semester but I think I may be able to expand on this resource more during my second semester. In general, I am less inclined to take help from outside sources and prefer to take things on myself. In the future, however, I think I will try to reach out to professors more as a way of mastering academics as well as building relationships with staff. In the end, this seminar has been important for self-reflection and a better understanding of my expectations for the university.

About Me

Profi

My life, past and present, has been about making our local and global community a better place. Before arriving at Ohio State I was a volunteer firefighter and EMT. During my summers, starting my Sophomore year of high school, I worked at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in research under Dr. Lauren Bakaletz. It is through these experiences that I was further driven to pursue a medical career with a microbiology major, as I believe those are the channels that will allow me to make a difference. The experiences aforementioned would have been impossible if I were not open to learning different things that way exceeded my comfort zone. This has inspired in me a need to learn anything that relates to my fields of study, regardless of the difficulty I may face in mastering it.
