G.O.A.L.S.

The University Honors & Scholars Center at The Ohio State University serves high-ability, motivated undergraduate students. G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness 

Global awareness helps bring new ideas and perspectives which I believe is essential for an all rounded education. For global awareness, I plan to take a language course where I might be able to learn more about the history of that language and where it comes from. My being in India for the past 9 years and coming to the United States for higher studies has given me the opportunity to experience living among a diverse community and learn about new cultures and beliefs. I also plan to contribute to OSU’s diverse community and promote my own culture by joining the Indian Student Association. 

Original Inquiry

Original Inquiry is taking in-class knowledge to applying it in real life through research, performance etc. I plan to participate in research in my sophomore year. Since my area of interest is in genetics, I plan to participate in research related to genetics.

Academic Enrichment

I chose Biology as my major to get a flavor of what in biology I might want to specialize in in the future. For my GE requirements, I chose ENG1110.01H because I felt that it would enable me to communicate my ideas better in writing. I chose PSYCH 1100H because it could help me in any field I decide to explore further. It would enable me to understand people better, which is essential for any career. My curriculum gives me an all rounded education. The curriculum includes courses will help me in developing skills like critical thinking, analytical skills, communication skills, creative thinking etc. For a career in research, critical thinking skills and analytical skills are important for analyzing data. Creative thinking is important for innovation in research.

Leadership Development

Leadership to me means being able to bring a group of people together to achieve a common goal through planning, motivation and determination. I plan to join a sustainability club where I may be able to lead large scale sustainability projects. I plan to also incorporate leadership in volunteer work that I do in undergrad.

Service Engagement

I think that service engagement is a significant part of global awareness and social studies. It provides the connection between the theoretical content that the curriculum supplies and real world problems. It allows for application of learnings from the coursework to real life. Since my area of interest is pre health, volunteering at a hospital through an internship is what I plan to do.
